I'll go ahead and throw this out there...if fans of teams that haven't played a team in 5 years are starting threads asking about their blue blood status, said team is still a blue blood. Irrelevant teams are simply forgotten.

or its the off season.

No, the Huskers are not a blue blood program. I love Nebraska and wish we played them every year. I had two pennants in my room when I was growing up: an OU pennant and a Nebraska pennant. I have attended watch parties with Nebraska fans when OU wasn't playing that day. Nebraska has the best fans in college football. And they did have the best teams ever in college football in the 90's but that was a long, long time ago. I put Nebraska in the same category as teams like Michigan and Miami. They are good programs but not in the elite 6-8 teams all time.

Michigan, the team with the most wins, is not elite?

I also put a lot of emphasis on National Championships. Winning a bunch of games is nice but it doesn't make a team "elite'. That's why I don't consider Bob Stoops to have accomplished nearly as much at OU as Wilkinson and Switzer did. Bob can win Big 12 championships almost at will but he struggles when he gets on the Big Stage. Hell, it happened again just a few months ago. Michigan has the stats but they are not in the top tier of "elite" teams over the past 50-60 years.

I'd say no but only for one reason: recruits are only 18 or so which means they probably have little to no memory of Nebraska being dominant.

It doesn't take away Nebraska's history but I doubt you get many historians wanting to play football. It also doesn't mean Nebraska is a small school. It's the biggest thing in their state so there will always be expectations

Excluding Nebraska from the top tier "elite" teams over the last 50-60 years is idiotic.

In the last 50 years:
Nebraska
#2 winning percentage
#1 wins
5 national titles
19 conference titles

I can make a case too for leaving them in. The problem with the term "blue blood" is it gives too much credit to stuff that happened a long time ago. It's the same thing with people. I have always hated dealing with people who consider their family to be blue bloods when the past couple of generations are average at best and occasionally absolutely losers. I made my fortune over the past 25 years so I'm just the "nouveau riche" to people like that. Put Nebraska in the blue blood classification and I really don't have a problem with it. But I just don't see the term meaning much unless a team/family/etc. have earned that distinction up to the present time.

It means little, other than it's better to have a rich history than not all things being equal. The question is whether or not Nebraska is a blue blood, not whether it matters.

I'm a business man. History means very little to me unless the current performance is up to par. But that line of thinking is obviously subjective. By your definition Nebraska is a blue blood and that's fine since the Huskers do have a great resume. But Nebraska needs to at least start winning B1G championships to put any arguments to rest.

I can agree with that for sure. Things look to be heading the right direction.

And the number of Big 10 Championship games Michigan has been in are? (Yes, that would be Zero)

And Michigan's record against Nebraska in Big 10 play is? (That would be 1-2 Jim)

I'll never forget that lone championship game Michigan made when their fans bought a lot of tickets and....., wait a minute. Mighty Michigan hasn't made a Big 10 Championship game. Ever.
Guys, guys. There's no reason us Blue Bloods need to argue like this.

What I would give to see us ranked #1 and #2 in September of 2021 and 2022 when we play each other home and home. But hopefully we will catch each other again before then in the CFP. There's nothing better than sitting in an Oklahoma/Nebraska crowd and everybody yelling "Go Big Red". I remember how the home fans always made the visitors feel like guests and win or lose we were all shaking hands after every game. That's what college football should be about instead of crap like what happened at Penn State and Baylor.

That would be a fitting way to pay homage to the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century.

It sure would. At least the game in Lincoln will be in September. I can't tell you how damn cold I've been sitting in Memorial Stadium in November wearing all my hunting gear and still freezing to death. I don't drink but my Dad swore brandy was helping him survive the cold. One year he brought two flasks to the Nebraska game in Lincoln and he ended up sharing them with a Nebraska couple sitting next to us. If I could just go back in time for one day...............................

We have.

Just like you have with crazy man Harbaugh.

And that bumbling Hoke before the guy you really hated in Rodriguez who lost to an FCS team, and Lloyd Carr who was lucky (at least you all thought), and then the guy Moeller who really stunk it up after Bo who never won a Natty.

We have a 2-1 record against you clowns in conference play.

psst...the monkey's a Bronco, not a stanky walverine
get shit together
