Think maybe he had "help?"

Squeaky clean the guy isn't close to being HOF material.

But he's dirty as hell.

In 10 yrs no one even remembers Jim Edmonds because there's not a lot to remember.

They all had help. Even playing field.

10 yrs from now we'll only remember him for juicing with Darren Erstad and Tim Salmon and for being on some Sports Center top plays for good catches. Any serious discussion of him in the HOF or comparison to Junior is ludicrous IMO.

I don't think anyone is comparing him to JR offensively. Defensively they were very similar, though.

Unless you are a catcher or maybe SS defense doesn't get you in the HoF.

Yea, but one can certainly make the case that Edmonds was a borderline HOF caliber hitter to boot, so when you combine that with his defense (which I do certainly think was overrated), I could see the case for him.

Honestly if Griffey Jr. could have stayed healthy I think he would have went down as the G.O.A.T. IMO.

In Griffey's first 10 or so years (before he went to Cincy and started declining/getting hurt), he wasn't as good as what Mantle or Mays did for instance, so even if Griffey had a normal decline instead of a major dropoff, I don't see it...he would've had to play better in his 30s than in his 20s to make it close.

Griffey before Cincy - .299 AVG, 149 OPS+, 7.3 WAR/162 games
Mantle's entire career - .298 AVG, 175 OPS+, 7.7 WAR/162 games
Mays' entire career - .302 AVG, 156 OPS+, 8.6 WAR/162 games

So one can make a pretty good case that Griffey during the best half of his career wasn't as good as Mays or Mantle at their average.

no

fucking

way

nice player, but not a HOFer...not a game changer...never considered the best at anything in his time.

He was the best at needlessly diving or sliding to make routine catches look more difficult than they were. I blame ESPN.

Would I take Edmonds over Griffey from 2000 on? Yes. Anyone would. Griffey hardly ever played.

Now you're just being silly. You said he was never considered the best at anything. Jim Edmonds is considered one of the best defensive cf'ers of ALL TIME, actually. He was certainly the best cf'er of the 2000's. Easily. This is not up for debate at all.
Wait....didn't Andruw Jones play in the 2000's? 10 consecutive gold gloves and 1st in defensive WAR 2000-2003.

They both won GG's at the same time. Apparently, the award doesn't discriminate.

I say yes but not 1st Ballot
A serviceable player who had some value but HoF, not a chance. The key is since he left the game no one remembers him or misses him. That should tell you the answer to your question right there.
Dude couldn't stay healthy either. Played 150 games in a season only 4 times in his entire career.

All very Good points. But still, Seattle Mariners Griffey is the best player I've seen since I started watching baseball in '85. Trout is moving his way up the list though.
