Qb is #1 and with our injuries at WR, I would like to see a stud WR, would love and I mean love to get Floyd from N.D. the guy is a beast and the best WR out there. Big, strong and fast

Anything that does not talk about CB as a top 2 need going forward is wrong.

there isn't a right answer on the order. there's a ton of major holes. qb, rb, lt, nt, olb, cb. cb could be 4th on the list of needs

It depends on if we are able to resign Carlos Rogers, and how Culliver comes along for next year, but right now it is a huge hole that needs to be addressed.

No, there really can't be any order. It goes
1. QB
2. CB

Everything else.

To suggest that RB is as much a need as QB or CB is ignorant.

So we're going to what?

Hope that Rogers can develop into a legit #1 CB after 6 years? He's a very good #2 CB, he's not a #1 guy.

And Culliver? We expect him to develop into a legitimate starting CB? If we throw Rogers and Culliver out there as our 1/2 CB punch, teams will throw all over us.

We NEED to address CB. We have needed to address CB for years.

I agree Rogers is a very good #2 CB. Yes, Culliver was drafted where he was because he has the physical tools to develop into a very good starting #2 CB. He was a controversial boom/bust pick taken for his physical ability, but that is his ceiling. It's very probable that he doesn't reach his ceiling and fill this hole for us. In that case CB remains a huge need.

But if he does it gives us two very good #2 CB's. Yes, we could definitely use another high CB, but it opens the possibility of going after another elite position like NG, which we have also neglected to address high for several years.

i didn't say rb is as much of a need, what i did say is it's a major hole. rb and nt would be the ones after the top 4. lt is extremely important and a pass rush can make an avg secondary look good. look at how good plummer and webster looked that one year when okeafor and carter were getting qb pressure.

We haven't completely ignored NT though. We used our franchise tag last year on a player that many analysts considered one of the best 3-4 NT in the league in 2010, then lost him this year. Given how our run defense has played in the first 2 games, I think NT is in better shape than CB (particularly given how the secondary has performed).

Also, having 2 good #2 CBs is not enough in the current game. We may have 2 good #2s, but what's behind it. I'd much rather have Culliver, if he reaches his potential, as the 3rd guy with a #1 and Rogers as the regular CBs.

The key word in your last sentence is "looked." More specifically, how good Plummer and Webster "looked." Our pass defense was still 19th in yards allowed.

I also don't know that Webster ever looked all that good. Although compared to Newsome, McDonald, Walker, McMillan etc he did.

Gore isn't done but every team knows about Alex so they stack the box and leave it to Alex to beat them. Add to it an Offensive line that has forgotten how to run block and a HC that seems to be acting a lot like the old coach... Maybe Singletary gave motivational speeches at Stanford... I was hoping for creativity on offense not the same old up the gut.

Redneck, he's done. Kendall Hunter gets a few carries and the run game shows life. There is creativity to the run game, but Gore is a step (maybe two slower) and the OL is bad. But the OL has been bad for awhile. Gore doesn't make anyone miss anymore.

Gore's body language was terrible today. He looked like he didn't want to be out there and wasn't really engaged in the game at all.

I think Gore still has something in the tank but I do think Hunter needs to be out there a lot more than what he is. He's better able to stretch the field and maybe soften that 8 man front a bit which might open things up for both himself and Gore a bit.

Lets say the niners get pick 10-15. What are the chances Andrew Luck pulls a Eli and says he wants to play in SF?

even with Harbaugh I doubt he wants to play behind this OL

Gore looks like he is done. So far this season he has been as ineffective as starting back can be. The line isn't helping, but he looks like age and injuries have caught up to him. His explosiveness isn't showing, he isn't making cuts as easy. With as little room as the line creates, we need the more explosive guy back there to try to work with it. I'd like to see Hunter much more involved.

I like Hunter and hope he gets more touches he is definately better off the edges than Gore is. Gore is the between the tackles guy but he hasn't been good this year. Maybe he has lost a step or the combination of half a step gone, poor offensive line, and teams just deciding to say hey we stop Gore and Make Alex beat us.

He's done.

I wanted him to walk before the season after he did the little holdout thing.

Today was all the evidence needed to see that he's finished. Poor body language and he fumbled inside our own 15. Most overlook Gore's untimely fumbles over the years. I dont think we can afford to now.

I didn't see the game, but I saw the Hunter TD during the Fox highlights. I saw more burst from Hunter on that play than any run from Gore this season. I'm concerned his best days are gone......

i noticed that too. looked like his cat died or something. could be frustration, maybe he realizes he's a step slower now after all the injuries. i'm hoping gore bounces back next week.

Here is an article from Matt Maiocco touching on this subject.

CINCINNATI -- Frank Gore is finished. He's past his prime and he's going downhill fast.

Rookie Kendall Hunter is fresh, fast and fantastic. There is no way the 49ers can keep him off the field in favor of the over-the-hill Gore.

Right?

Not so fast.

Gore, 28, has not gotten off to a good start. We all know that. And his right ankle sprain has his availability this week against the Philadelphia Eagles in question. But Hunter, in his small sample size of statistics, is not much better.

Gore averaged 2.5 yards a carry (59 rushes for 148 yards) in the 49ers' first three games. Hunter's average is 2.7 yards (11 carries for 30 yards). And that goes to show that it might not be entirely Gore's fault. And Hunter's low average might not be his fault, either.

There simply hasn't been much room for the 49ers' running backs to maneuver. And that might not change until the passing attack can get things going. After all, Alex Smith has been efficient, but his 504 yards passing in three games ranks 28th in the league.

One myth that you can completely ignore is the notion that Gore signed a big contract extension and is no longer motivated.

Gore, really, got only $2 million guaranteed and he must play and put up big numbers for him to come even close to getting the reported $21 million through the 2014 season.

Gore is in his seventh NFL season, and his commitment level is as high as it's ever been. The blitz pickup aspect of his game is exceptional, and that's all about attitude and knowing one's assignments.

Perhaps Gore has slowed down a bit, but it's impossible to tell at this point. After all, he and Hunter are producing yards at the same low rate.
