Is Clemson hurting themselves in the long run by playing two QBs?

Ive seen it crash and burn first hand. I think it’s a terrible strategy. It’s clear Dabo thinks Lawrence is a better QB and better for the team yet doesn’t want to hurt BK’s ego.

Historically it has been tried many times, very few if any real examples of it bring about season long positive results. We tried it last year....not good. Got no problem with a back up having a special package for a series or even two, but approaching a game with two equal starters seldom produces the best results.

I don't think a team has won a national title while playing 2 QBs and if it has been done, it hasn't been done in this era of College Football.

You could argue Tebow and Chris Leak

In 2006? Tebow barely threw the ball. 33 pass attempts all year and only 89 rushing attempts. KB already has that beat and Lawrence has 23 attempts already. They are being used interchangeably while Tebow and Leak weren't used like that at all.

I think they need the Frosh to emerge to become a serious contender. The offense was pedestrian last year and looks to be about the same this year. Thought I think fixing that back end of the defense is a bigger issue right now

If they're serious about winning a title, they get Lawrence in with the starters ASAP. KB simply isn't a title-caliber QB. He's like a poor man's JT Barrett. Great athlete, below average passer.

If you have more than 1 QB you don’t have a QB.

Dabo is between a rock and a hard place.

KB has experience. But, he lacks a strong arm. Lawrence, has
an arm but could be prone to frosh mistakes which could put them
in a difficult position for their defense.

I don't think there is any doubt that Dabo is picking spots for
Lawrence to play and gain experience, but he's relying on his defense to win games. But that has a problem to it. When you rely on defense you allow the other team to stay in the game longer. Then
it comes down to who can make a play, not who has the better team.
If you have superior talent, you never want to put yourself in that
position.

The other night is a good example. They went up 2 scores and
then went into a shell on offense and played an improvised prevent
defense and they were lucky to escape with a two point win.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

No.

The kid is a true freshman and will make true freshman mistakes. When it came down to it, Clemson's starting QB was made clear.

But it's obvious they think Lawerence has the bigger upside and they are trying to get him as much experience as possible.

The tall one with the big face has a good arm. But our DB’s are undersized and had a tough time covering. It also helps that their receivers went to the Michael Irvin school of pushing defenders off.

It has not been made clear

It was pretty clear to me. I think I saw Lawrence play 1 series in the second half, and it was a 3 and out or something, then Bryant played the entire rest of the game when things were really on the line, and he scored a TD.

When 1 QB basically plays the entire 2nd half with the game still on the line - that's who your starting QB is. The other guy is getting experience time.
