Sometimes sitting a superstar is the best way to get the rest of your team to step up (think Marty going down and the team playing great in front of Clemmensen).

I wasn't really all that impressed with the flyers yesterday. After what they did to pit i thought we would get pounded 6-2. I think the flyers might overlook this matchup esp sice taking Pitt out quickly. If it wasnt gor harrolds mistake and Marty turnover the flyers didn't really have to work for their goals except giroux. The overtime goal I think couldve been waived off.

I was very shocked at how close that game was.

gm 1 was the game to steal. We caught them rusty and napping. Problem now, they woke up and went 1 up on us. Not a series killer, but had we taken that game, defintely leaves room for error in the series and maybe boosts our guys up.

Which OT goal? the first should've and was overturned but not the second one. Didn't see anything alarming then.

“You look around the series and great players go through stretches where things aren’t working for them

That's true when they're trying and giving it all. that's not the case. Kovy hasn't gone Kovy at all.... Deboer, you hiding something!

Therapy? Again with the vague terms!

There was a point during one of the PPs, where the puck came right over to him perfectly and I was thinking here comes a bomb, and he just received it and obviously never thought about shooting.

I very much agree with this. Specifically the first period was where you should have creamed us. And you did, just not on the scoreboard. Your team had some solid looks and played in our end for most of it; but only having one goal to show for it really left the door open for us to get back in it. The Flyers are a team that can score. We probably can't stop anyone else from scoring on us with the way our goalie is playing, but if the game turns into a shootout, I like us as opposed to anyone else in the league right now.

And whoever posted that they should sit Brodeur - PLEASE DO. He made some spectacular stops yesterday. He had two mistakes that cost his team on the scoreboard - specifically fully committing glove side on the Briere breakaway and the miscommunication with the defense that led to the JVR goal - but he made a BUNCH of brilliant saves and forced the Flyers to change the way they enter the zone with just his puck handling skills. With Brodeur on the bench, the Flyers probably win 5-3 in regulation instead of 4-3 OT.

TOTALLY agree Cup... I really was shocked they didnt take it to us... and if they show the same type of play in game two, then I really think we can win this series... I thought they would pound us and we would be outmatched, but we were right there with them and if it werent for two stupid mistakes, then we had them... I dont know if they were playing bad, but like always with the cryers, there goaltending is there weak spot... I think we can score, we just gotta play smarter and stop taking stupid penalties and Marty has to do a better job with the puck.... that clearing was unforgivable.... but its only game one... lets see what happens in game two... if we take it and the cryers look the same, then I think we have a good shot....

Replay show that the guy skating in front on Marty hit his stick and then his upper body as the puck arrived... I thought it should have been interference because he was not pushed... but as Marty said in the post game... the guy hit my stick and it affected me from stoping the puck... but since the refs already overturned one in OT then sure as hell were not gonna do it again... .it was close but I was shocked it wasnt called (although being a die hard devil fan, no one is shocked by that statement....)

All in all, game 1 is done.. lets steal one from game 2 and take home ice advantage.....

IF Kovy is hurt, he should NOT be out there. PERIOD. Moose played better against Philly this past season but it was the regular season. I'm good with Marty. Larsson must play and Harrold must sit. And I'm starting to get upset with Zids and Greene as well.

We should have won game 1. The Flyers were a bit rusty and they still won. This is what has me alarmed. I think we will get the real Flyers in game 2 and I hope the Devils can hang with them. You never want to get embarassed

Finally, the Kings look unreal and they've got a ton of offense on that team.

Are you on fucking crack?! No Kovy, No Marty in a MUST WIN game? Why not just hand them the series cause if we dont win tomorrow buh bye. I know I said this against Florida but I still don't know how we got thru them but this is Philly and we all saw them destroy the Penguins at full strength and health so this time it's the truth.

If Kovy is fine why is he undergoing therapy and joining the team in philly tomorrow?Kovy has been a liability if he needs to sit he needs to sit.Only suggested sitting Marty because Moose has played well against philly and he could use a break.Yes tomorrow is a big game but A shakeup could help and its not must win yet would you prefer we wait until we are down 2 games before making a fucking move or getting kovy some rest?Calm down its a best of 7 seven series and we are not the over hyped no defense fucking pens

I don't think it was technically goalie interference. The goalie only has free reign in his crease, and JVR wasn't in the crease.

Official NHL Rules said:
69.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper - This rule is based on the premise that an attacking player’s position, whether inside or outside the crease, should not, by itself, determine whether a goal should be allowed or disallowed. In other words, goals scored while attacking players are standing in the crease may, in appropriate circumstances be allowed. Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgment of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review.

For purposes of this rule, “contact,” whether incidental or otherwise, shall mean any contact that is made between or among a goalkeeper and attacking player(s), whether by means of a stick or any part of the body.

The overriding rationale of this rule is that a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player. If an attacking player enters the goal crease and, by his actions, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.

If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the goalkeeper, such contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

If a defending player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by an attacking player so as to cause the defending player to come into contact with his own goalkeeper, such contact shall be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule, and if necessary a penalty assessed to the attacking player and if a goal is scored it would be disallowed.

The two bolded parts are really what I think show that it was not an interference call. Since the contact was outside of the crease, and not deliberate, I feel this rule states the goal should be allowed. Of course, my team WAS the one who scored it, so I see why you might accuse me of a small bias...

To be honest vadered I don't think the devils fans are questioning the rules or the JVR play as much as the reds interpretation of the rules.I think the actual complaint stems from an incidental contact goal that was called against us in the Florida series. All in all game 1 is in the books personally I'm not going to dwell on it im more concerned with the problems we have control over that need to be addressed and moving on to game 2,

I called it as soon as I saw the replay, Marty is still in the crease during contact. Should have been waived off

Just watched the replay several times
he was still in the crease when contact was made
although that happened i still think he would have scored even if there was no contact
regardless we shouldnt have let it come to that
lamoriello is saying that kovi got injured in the middle of the first round
out for tonight and is considered day to day

Its been obvious since he got burned on the game winning breakaway during game 2 that he's hurt. Probably pulled groin and that doesnt heal up after a few days....
