If you're that dumb to not realize the major reason the Cavs made the playoffs the last two seasons was Lebron James. You're an idiot. Swap Tristan with Joel Anthony and Cleveland still makes the playoffs. Tristan Thompson is a winner because he plays with Lebron James. Nothing more
so if the Heat dont make the playoffs this year - will you say that the only reason they made the playoffs last year is because of Wade and Deng etc?

Joel Anthony? LOl, cmon now...if you remember- Riley signed Anthony to a horrible deal he later regretted and had to tie a first round pick around his neck just to get rid of him. When you use such ridiculous examples it destroys any ounce of credibility you may possess.

Would the Cavs not make the playoffs/finals if they had Joel Anthony instead ofTristan thompson. Yes or No?

89% of people voted for Whiteside. Out of the six that picked Thompson, three are blind Cavs homers and two of those are nothing but trolls.

At some point you've just got to give in, sweetheart.

Guys, this really has to stop.

Bottom line, Thompson is a role player. He is a very good one though. He would not make a substantial impact on on average team, but I guarantee the Cavs would not have won a title if they had Joel Anthony instead this year (or even Whiteside). The Cavs need Thompson.

That being said, most teams in the league would take Whiteside because he is the more talented player who is more likely to make an impact. Only teams who are already at Championship level and simply need their 5 to defend and rebound would consider taking Thompson ahead of Whiteside.

In other words, both sides are right to a degree here. Both are highly valuable players. If the Cavs and Heat engaged in a straight player for player trade, it would make both teams worse.

I should clarify.

Cleveland might not be worse with Whiteside against the average team, but they would against the only opponent that really matters for them. Whiteside can't defend in space like Thompson can.

Hear what you're saying, Lance. But the premise of this thread was "who'd you rather have"? The numbers(poll numbers anyway ) say Whiteside...

Maybe he can't, but he can do several things, very well, that Tristan can't.
I think you are very wrong to make that assumption.
The Warriors D would actually have to try to defend Whiteside.
They ignored Tristan.

I voted for Whiteside too. All I am saying is that it isn't as black and white as most are marlin it. Whitside is better, but Thompson has a couple very valuable skills and fits the Cavs perfectly.

I don't think Cleveland would post Whiteside much either. The ball would still be in LeBron and Kyrie's hands. his offensive skills wouldn't be fully utilized.

But the question isn't who fit the cavs better.

At last you said " I don't think".

I think that is an incorrect assumption.

Also, in the 4th qtr of game 7, I don't think Tristan put up any stats.

For the entire game he had 3 total rebounds, none offensive.

Tristan fits the role created for him.

To assume the Cavs couldn't or wouldn't find a way to utilize a dominant true center is ridiculous to me.
They HOPED Mozgov would be that guy when they gave up 2 #1's to get him.

That isn't what I am saying.

They don't need anything from their 5 to beat anybody in the East. They are that much better than the field. Thompson, Whiteside, Anthony, doesn't matter.

They DO need production from the 5 to beat GS. Thonpson's ability to switch onto guards and defend in space is more valuable in that matchup than anything Whiteside brings to the table.

That is why I truly think Cleveland is better served by having Thompson. It is a matchup specific issue against the only team they need him for.

The potential superstar

Hassan Whiteside
C / Miami Heat
PPG: 14.2 RPG: 11.8 BPG: 3.7
In some ways, Whiteside is still very much a young player. With just 3,378 minutes logged in the NBA so far, seven different members of the 2014 NBA Draft class have seen the floor more in their careers. He has relatively little experience, but we also typically don't expect much improvement from players by the time they are 27, which makes Whiteside such an interesting case. If all he does is replicate his full-season numbers from 2015-16, Whiteside is an elite center. However, it is worth wondering just how much he might be capable of. Whiteside averaged 17.5 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game after the All-Star break, and most impressively, managed to improve his success rate at the free-throw line from 55.2 percent to 75 percent after the break. That version of Whiteside might still be capable of those kinds of leaps in the middle of the season -- which is astounding -- and makes him an even more interesting Fantasy target. It isn't crazy to think Whiteside has the potential to be the No. 1 center in all of Fantasy next season.

This has nothing to do with "Who fits better in cleveland". It's about who is the better player.

hes not a dominant center- he puts up stats- but so did shareef abdul rahim.

the guy is a proven loser. over and over in his career. nothing will change this year.
