Whiteside has a legit chance to become he next Larry Sanders, so I fully understand not wanting to sign him to an $80 million contract.

That said, the question originally posed was who would you rather have today. Whiteside is obviously the better player. Anyone who answers Thompson is betting on Whiteside falling off a cliff after he gets paid.

Not sure how you know he has a legit chance to become Larry Sanders, but if we're just speculating, then he'd also have a legit chance to be a top, elite NBA center based on his play and improvement in his 1 real year in the league.
Wiggys been predicting a giant meltdown for over a year.
It's just hate and hope at this point.

Wiggy is so deep into his Thompson is better than Whiteside idiocy that he literally has no choice but to continue to embarrass himself and hope for Whiteside to fail. It's not much different than hoping for an opposing player to suffer an injury, but then we all know that's the type of person he is and it's why no one respects him or takes anything he says seriously.

Is there a chance that Whiteside will get paid, decide he's made it and stop working as hard as he did to get the money? Of course, that can happen with any player. But to openly hope for a young player to fail is pretty sad.

Also, even it Whiteside does ultimately fail, it doesn't change the fact that, right now, Whiteside is the better player and that TT is overpaid.

How I know? I hear stories just like anybody. People besides Wiggy have questioned his work ethic in the past. Athletes with questionable work ethic are always much higher risk than players who are intrinsically motivated. Once they get paid, they often slack. Sanders is just the extreme example.

Clearly Whiteside has enough upside to justify the risk, but at the end of the day whether or not he develops into a perennial all star or a salary cap anchor will be determined by his character.

I am not willing to assume that because he made mistakes in the past that he cannot change, but the team that signs him had better do their homework. It will be interesting to see what the Heat do.

I'm not sure about stories, but I am sure about fact.
Whiteside was in the gym, working with the Heat near all of last summer.
You don't improve the way he has without putting in the work in any part of life, yet alone in the elite world of the NBA.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Has he earned a payday? Absolutely. Should whatever team that gives him that money be nervous? Definitely.

Rumor is that the Lakers intend to make a serious run at him. Personally, I hope they do, but I'd be more comfortable with it if it were a shorter deal, say 3-4 years but with a team option on the final year.

Maybe he has changed. People can mature. I hope for his sake and Miami's that he is legit. i think Miami's agression in pursuit of Whiteside will be very telling for me.

There is a HILARIOUS story at the end of that podcast that tells a story of Whiteside flexing in what he thought was a mirror---- it was really a room in the media room with one way glass- and Whiteside is flexing and making all these ridiculous faces and the media is just on the other side of the 1 way glass laughing their asses off....

Whiteside asking the beat writer why he is in the locker room all the time- on the road, in the airplane, asking is he a super fan? why does he follow the team around?-- this a YEAR AND A HALF in to his time with the Kings--- DeMarcus Cousins heres this and- is like "CMON DUDE- thats the BEAT reporter!"....lol

this guy is just a simpleton.

that and he cant even stay on the floor. Teams just DONT PLAY centers like Whiteside anymore- its just a bad way to spend your money in todays NBA unless the guy is dominant and you are gonna play inside-out with him------ you cant even keep the guy on the floor against a ton of teams....spend the money elsewhere!!!!

Your team is spending $85 million on a poor version of Whiteside. Last I checked, you really can't do anything with TT on the outside.

He's all over Drummonds nut sack which makes him a total fool/ hypocrite.
Whiteside is already statistically better and improving.
Drummond is pulled out of close games cause he can't shoot FTs.

Thompson can stay on the floor in any situation. If you cant see the value there than i dont know what to say.

Did you see how well Biyombo played and hes just a poor mans version---- but having that athletic guy thats about 6 foot 9, who can defend a center, defend a pf, and defend a SF, and even sometimes even defend a GUARD- is worth its weight in gold in the playoffs.

The modern NBA has designated players like Whietside to part time status with the pick and roll and bigs that can shoot. I dont see how you can win if you designate a quarter of your payroll to a guy like this with that skill set---- AND THEN you have to consider all the mental issues...not only that but then compare him to Thompson who NEVER GETS HURT. by DEFAULT Thompson had a much better playoffs!

Yeah, I wan't trying to imply that it could be more than 4, just that I'd want a team option on year 4. Could have stated that better. I don't think I'd want a full 4 year guaranteed contract on him.

I'd prefer a 3 year with a team option on year 3. Although, I'm sure that's probably wishful thinking. Especially if Riley is serious about signing Whiteside being priority 1.

Still waiting for the list of times Whiteside was taken out of games because the opponent created a better lineup for themselves without playing a C.

If anything, opponents weakened their lineups in an attempt to get Whiteside out of games because they couldn't handle him.

Warriors are the ultimate small ball team. Whiteside was fine against them.

And Tristan on the floor in any situation?
Wasn't he a decoy in the lineup vs the Heat?
Then they started Love in an effort to negate Whiteside.
Did Spoelstra react and not start Whiteside?
How did that work out for the Cavs?

Post Thompsons stats amongst bigs and come back to me. I've already worked it out so I know if you're full of shit.

Can he stay on the floor in a blow out? Just curious. Peace.
