I'm confused on how you can be happy if all things you are hoping to see come to fruition, but still not be satisfied.

Winning it all takes an exceptional roster, plus then hoping they stay healthy, etc..
If it is painfully clear that you don't have championship talent, then I personally adjust my expectations, and if those are met I feel very satisfied with the season.

If you have a complete group of new players, along with a different coach, then you won't know if you have championship talent until they play a few games together.

Just look at the Spurs. They don't exactly have a roster full of superstars. But playing as a team changes everything. You get all the right pieces in place and things go your way.

MAYBE 20-25% of NBA teams, best case, have championship potential.
Some teams may suprise, like Phoenix last year, but for the most part, you have a fairly good idea of who the Final 8 will prob be before the season starts.

Disagree.

There are teams that are EXPECTED to do well in the playoffs but always fuck it up ie. the clippers, thunder, bulls, pacers etc.

Then there are teams who always surprise the league. Last years suns are a perfect example.

But nobody knows what happens when you have new players and new leadership. You get bad chemistry and everything goes wrong (2012-13 Lakers for example). Who says that won't happen to the Cavs for instance?

It's pretty simple really. I will be happy that they are moving in the right direction, but not satisfied with the ultimate results of the season because it didn't end with them winning a title.

You sound like me now with my Miami Hurricanes.

I just lowered my championship or bust expectations when it is totally unrealistic.
I'd be satisfied now with an ACC title game.

I'm not at all trying to convince either one of you of anything, but the Lakers are a projected 31.5 win team.
I'd personally set my satisfaction bar much lower then championship or bust.

The people in the palatial casinos that allow people to bet real money.

Lakers projected 12 in West.
Only teams with lower projection are Kings, Jazz, Wolves.

Do you disagree with the assessment?

And question #2. When did this thread become about the Lakers...?

The threads moved in a few directions, but it's all been basketball related.

Nobody's picking on the Lakers.
It was just an example.

not particularly, but as always it'll depends of key factors, like health, chemistry, etc. new coach imo will help...

not predicting playoffs, but this team imo is better than most give them credit for...

btw, did Chalmers really say that...?

He did, which quickly elevated him up my list of current favorite Heat players.

If nothing else, we will have at least one thing in common this season.:suds:

I actually agree with that assessment.
Health is biggest factor, and let's all hope Kobe stays healthy.
The leagues better, and games more fun to watch when he's able to compete.

The West is still so loaded though........

It's really just about how each individual decides to look at their teams season. I've been a Lakers fan for 43+ years and the organizations mantra for that entire time has always been championship or bust.

Obviously, no team can win and/or compete for the title every single season, but that doesn't mean you change the goal, it just means that you need to always be working toward that goal until it's achieved.

So, while I know I'm not going to be satisfied with the season because the Lakers aren't going to win the title. I can still be happy if the team shows that they are moving in the right direction.

It's kind of hard not to have the 'championship or bust' state of mind when your team has won a third of the last 15 NBA titles.

My team has won half of the last 4, and 3 in a decade.
I have zero championship expectations this season.

I will be completely satisfied this year if:

1. Bosh proves worth his max deal.
2. Wade plays at a high level, and stays for the most part healthy.
3. The young players who Riley hopes will develop into keepers are given that chance.
4. The team comes out each night and plays with a sense or urgency.
5. Spoelstra shows he can adopt, and gets the max out of this group, whatever that is.
6. We or any of the other 29 teams beats the Cavs in a playoff series :yahoo:
