Weren't the Leafs interested in Penner? I'm sure they will be again when Nash isn't available since it doesn't seem like they're the best trade partner for Brown.

I'm thinking something like Read & a 2nd, maybe toss in a prospect for Brown. For those of you who don't know much about Read he's 3rd in rooking scoring with 34pts(16G, 18A) and a +9. He plays all situations for the Flyers, but his PP time has gone down a little with the returns of Schenn and JVR. I know the Flyers don't need/want Penner either as we have the same problem as the Kings up front(logjam).

So what do you think Read & a 2nd in the ballpark or do you all think Lombardi wants a lot more?

Maybe I am undervauling Read but I'm thinking he'll want more. And even if I am undervaluing Read, I still think he'd want a top 6 forward THIS year, not someone who can develop into that. He's trying to save his job at this point.

I actually changed the date of when the trade happend to the deadline, and it'd work at that point, but who knows if he'd still be available at that point.

To be honest the player the Caps need is Mike Ribeiro. He's the creative center Ovi needs right now. Unfortuantely for the Caps, Dallas is in the playoff hunt.

Read is bouncing between top 6 and top 9, he definitely has the skill set to be a top 6. I think he'd want more too though. I'm not sure he's going to get a top 6 that isn't a ufa though. I could see tossing a prospect in with Read & the 2nd, I'm not sure if they'd be interesed in Carle since they moved JJ. I could see Carle(ufa), Read, & a2nd(maybe 1st) for Brown and Voynov.


I just don't see Brown getting as big a return as I think Lombardi is looking for, unless like I said he settles for a ufa top 6. Wasn't Penner supposed to be a top 6 though?

This is very true, right now we need a 2nd line center that can possibly play 1st because we have four 3rd line centers. For the future once Backstrom gets back, we will still need a 2nd line center

How about Danny Briere? He's a good play maker, seems like he needs a change of scenery now though since we're totally packed at C. I'm sure you remember how good he was killing the Caps in the playoffs a few years ago.
