What conference would you want to join?

School Pres would definitely favor the Big 10 over the SEC due to academic standards. He thinks he has turned OU in the the Harvard of State schools. The Big 10 would not accept Ok State, I'm confident in that.

I'm curious to see which conference Texas would prefer? Or would they go indie?

They'd probably go indie. One of the few programs with the brand to do it.

I'd say the B1G would be a good fit for them, but the B1G wont do it because it is already way too big and ridiculous that teams like Wisconsin/Michigan play each other like 2 times in 10 years given the new conference divisions...

Unless the B1G went unorthodox and did some sort of divisions where the traditional B1G teams are in one division minus maybe Purdue and Northwestern, and the new B1G additions are their own division.

I say the B1G expands to 20 teams. Bring Texas, OU and 4 other teams. No more OOC games, just go straight to conference games. We can start out with Rutgers, Purdue and Indiana, which is the equivalent to playing soft FCS teams anyway. Yes, I know Texas just lost to KU, but that was under an awful coach who has since been fired. I would think this merger wouldn't happen for another 10 years so hopefully Herman has Texas back to contending for NC's by then.

Won't happen. The university does pride itself with academics so I would think Fenves and Perrin would push to go to either the Pac or B1G. Still, staying in the Big 12 is UT's #1 priority for now.....

Dude needs a wake up call:

US News and World Report ranks Oklahoma #111 of national universities. To put that in perspective:

Auburn #99
Alabama #103

Oklahoma wouldn't be in the top 3rd of the SEC schools and would be in the bottom 3rd of the ACC and Big 10.

Big 10 would be hard pressed to take OU on academic grounds. If you guys move the best option is the PAC.

In academic rankings if Oklahoma was in the SEC they would be tied 9th with Missouri.

I really hope this doesn't happen.

But if it did, yes, then Oklahoma to B1G would make sense. They would probably need Okie State to sign on board too for it to happen.

If we move to 16 team conferences than the Pac-12 is screwed if they can't get the Texahoma four.

Oklahoma and Texas can divorce for Godsake.

We could grab...

Boise
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor

Pac-12 would be willing to bend for Tech, But Boise State and Baylor? BSU's president even said they are likely 20 years away from getting up to the standards to get into the P12. And Baylor's religious ties will be a concern.

And other overall concerns with Baylor.

This is a athletic conference, who cares if some schools academics aren't up to par. Boise deserves a shot at a big conference. Just make them change their field and build up their stadium.

I hear you, but if this was just about athletics and TV sets, BYU would be in the pac-12 and now utah

exactly. I would laugh at a PAC with Texas too. Talk about one of these things doesn't belong here. Culturally and geographically Texas is far removed from the Left coast.

I've never been to Austin, but others from there or having been there says Austin is feels like a more liberal/west coast kind of area as compared to others in Texas. (SXSW etc)
