Only pitcher with a groundball rate of 60% and K Rate of 32%

And Im not crowning Carson Smith, he obviously has a live arm and major upside, while Wade Miley is no better than most guys you could pluck from your minor league system, or pick up in a very low level trade......Shit, the Yankees would have driven Ivan Nova to Seattle for either of the 2 pieces the Red Sox just got

Smith is damn fucking good. You guys got a fucking great pitcher.

I also think pretty highly of Elias. I don't think he's going to get much better than he is right now, but he projects as a pretty solid/consistent #4 guy.

Smith has great stuff. He's not one of those guys who just had a lucky year. He has closer material pitches.

I'm glad to hear it. Sounds like he was the best player in this deal. I don't really recall seeing him in action, but the Sox definitely need a guy like that!

He's young and looks like he can be good for a damn good time. I'd be greatly surprised if he displayed any form of regression from his 2015 campaign.

Mariners take on more payroll commitment in the trade than the Red Sox from this trade. Miley makes and will continue making more than Elias.

My point is that this trade likely means they won't spend $$$ on FA starter. So making this trade instead of resigning Kuma or signing someone else saves money on the rotation. I much rather sign a Kazmir or a Leake and keep 2 controllable players

I don't understand.

4 more months, but I'm pretty fucking confused. These moves make little sense short OR long term, and whether he's being handed a smaller, larger, or similar payroll to 2015.

Why didn't they just keep Elias/Smith and put 39 year old Benoit+Mileys salary towards a free agent starter like Leake,Lee,Buehrle,Wei-Yin Chen or Iwakuma?

Elias+Smith+Leake+Enyel De Los Santos+Nelson Ward >> Benoit+Miley+Jonathan Aro
.

Ken Giles was traded to Houston for 37th overall draft pick from 2014 Derek Fisher, Vincent Velasquez and Brett Oberholtzer.

I guess the M's see Miley as a pretty big upgrade over Elias.

I still think Elias will be a pen arm sooner than later.

One way to soften the blow of the Trumbo trade is to look at it like this:

Mariners give up:
-Mark Trumbo
-C.J. Riefenhauser
-Carlos Herrera
-Freddy Peralta
-Daniel Missaki

Mariners receive:
-Adam Lind
-Steve Clevenger

Now if only they can do something to make up for the Elias/Carson trade.

Leake/Lee/Wei-Yin Chen/Buehrle/Iwakuma-one could've been signed with Benoit+Miley's salary.

Signed Cishek for the bullpen.

When did relievers become 5mil/year guys?
