A report today that the Eagles are interested in talking extension sooner as opposed to later. They may have something done by the Eagles bye which I think is like week 6 or 7.
I voted for the hold off and wait approach. I see no reason to rush with an extension only a couple weeks into the season. Let him play and continue to grow with the offense. Howie can get a deal done after the season.

LOL
first you twisted the running QB in Dallas
You had a daily field day with Dak's contract.

And now...

What's different is I am still skeptical of Hurts, who has a much smaller sample size of success than Dak had when his contract extension became an issue.

Hurts has only played really well this year as a passer, before that he was sketchy. Hurts isn't even eligible yet as others have noted. Get it now?

Dallas waited so long they had to franchise Dak. Totally different situation.

At the same time, I chose see more data. I’m still pretty smitten with the idea of Bryce Young or Marcus Stroud. I want to see how the best league with the best defensive minds in the world reacts to the step forward he has made and how he handles it before I’m sold. Drafting QBs is always risky business but I think the prospects in this upcoming draft hold a ton of promise.
I'm assuming you mean CJ Stroud? Never heard of Marcus Stroud. Being a Buckeye fan I think you are referring to my guy CJ?

Jerry wasn't sure.

Remember the field day of signing wince? You laughed for days at Dallas and talked differently back then too. Sorry, I ain't buying. The biggest difference is you guys are sold on three games.

I want CJ or Bryce Young in a Hawks uni next year.

CJ is the better pocket passer with accuracy. Young is a more of a dual threat QB. So if you want a QB who will run, then Young is probably a better fit. CJ can run, but really doesn't need to with the Arsenal of weapons he has in his rec e iver room. He did run a couple of times last weekend vs Wisconsin. Not a pretty runner, but can I guess.

Need more data. It's worth 10 million a year not to fuck it up.

Say you pay him 40 now and the Bucs do the same exact thing to him again in the playoffs. What then besides sticking your head in your own ass?

I'm good either way as I believe both will be good NFL QBs

I voted do it now. Hurts has looked good behind that awesome Oline, but I’d rather see Philthy keep him verses finding a Josh Allen. Meanwhile, hopefully the redskins find a Josh Allen. Lol

I'm OK with the Commanders finding a Josh Allen, as long as they don’t find an OLine

Hurts looks like an average starting quality QB with upside at this point. Both sides can talk about a new deal but it can't be ratified until after this season is done. Like others i'm not convinced Hurts is a QB you want if you're down 2 scores in the 2nd half. Regardless, he's not going to play out his 4th season on a cheap rookie contract.
Good luck to the guy. Nice to see a team being proactive.

Bumping this thread because it's an interesting topic. Seems most of the posters voted correctly. They signed Hurts to a big deal way too early and now they are paying for that decision. Hate to see it. :)

I went looking for this and was kind of surprised. I had remembered more posters being onboard with this extension. I was always of the opinion that he was less accomplished than Wentz when they gave him his extension.

This was before he went to the SB though, wasn't it? I think there is another thread after the SB where he got his big payday. That was the one where there was a bigger discussion. Most people on here were giving Hurts props for having a great year and a great SB and no shame in losing to Mahomes and were kinda in agreement that the Eagles had to pay him just because of the economics of the current NFL. As for Wentz, I think he was fools gold from the jump and we all saw that play out. His almost MVP was kinda exposed as a bit fraudulent. Dude had talent and played well before his injury but he was definitely a product of everything around him. Hurts showed in that SB that he actually has the intangibles to be great. His biggest issue is turnovers right now. When he isn't giving the ball to the other team, he actually plays pretty well, all things considered, imo. The loss of Kelce will take some adjustment obviously. The new center hasn't been bad either, just hard to replace a first ballot HOFer and a guy that really helped in identifying everything at the line.

I remember when Eagles fans were touting him as the best QB in the NFC.

Good times.

Ah thanks for the clarification. I swear I remember most everyone being behind the extension, I was simply expressed concern that it was premature and that turned out to be right at this point in time.

The truth is he has only had one good year and I don't believe he is good enough to win a SB. I mean with their problems he is still in a far better situation than the vast majority of NFL QBs.

They had just been to the SB and he was one of the most marketable players in the NFL (I believe the most marketable last year). His deal was a no-brainer.

Tried to tell Philly fans. This has been hurts his whole career. He’s not that great, and even tries to tell the media how to write the headlines about him

Well it's kind of looking like a brainer right now.
