How Serious Is The F/o About Getting Howard?

It seems like they are very serious to me. I can't really see who we have to offer, maybe Lee, Ellis and future picks? That might not get it done. However, if they court him right, he might want to sign after this season. The new owners seem intent on building a winner here and the moves they're making, building from the inside out is the correct approach. I think we have the type of f/o in tact that could bring in a star like Howard, plus the fact that Lacob and Gruber are determined on turning this team into a big market team. I think we'd have a better chance of signing Howard then we would trading for him. Hopefully we can trade Ellis to Portland for Batum and Matthews like the speculated trade months back. That would make us a very deep squad that a player like Howard would love to be a part of.

Sounds good to me, but it's wishful thinking, at best. Without knowing the terms of the new CBA, it requires even more speculation and a perfect storm of events for Dwight to land in the Bay Area. I don't think it is going to happen, but there is no doubt he would be the perfect cornerstone. He fits well with Lee, but they would likely have to find a way to get rid of Avi's contract to afford Howard. I don't think that will happen, especially if the owners get any of the things they are bargaining for.

No, I wasn't the writer. You're right about the fact that it isn't credible. However, it did strike an interest in me. The Warriors offer for Howard was all over ESPN shortly after the draft also. Regardless of this article or not, I still wanted to know if there is any REAL evidence of the teams interest in obtaining Howard.

I think the front office is legitimately looking for a true superstar. They realize that Curry is a solid player but will never be a true superstar. Monta Ellis has superstar talent but it's not in the right package (6-foot-3 shooting guard). Everyone else on the team is either garbage or a complementary player at best. If they can package Ellis and some other talent for a big name that can sell jerseys and put butts in seats, they are going to do it.

But don't look for Howard to be coming to Golden State. The Warriors just don't have the trade pieces to land Superman.

There are another handful of teams that will likely have space if they use their amnesty provision wisely.

Then you have to consider the fact that there will be teams willing to sell off whatever they have to land Howard via trade (if the lockout ends and trades become possible). The foremost team I see is the Lakers. L.A. could very well offer Bynum, Odom and a player like Walton plus picks for Howard and Turkoglu. A deal like that would potentially sweep $30 million off the books. Both Bynum and Odom have contracts with team options for 2012-2013, meaning that the Magic could decline both team option, amnesty Arenas and suddenly Orlando would have about $35-40 million to spend in the FA market. They could offer Howard a max deal to come back home AND tell him he gets to pick a player to come with him - think Derron Williams or Chris Paul. With no state income tax, that is a huge advantage for Orlando.

Financially speaking, Orlando would have to trade Howard, Turkoglu and one other player and receive Ellis, Lee and Biedrins to make the deal work.

That being said, I don't see any trade happening with Orlando for Dwight Howard. He has stated his desire to play for New Jersey and while he could not officially block a deal to the Bay Area, he would most definitely make things miserable for the Warriors if they forced a trade.

It would sure as heck clear out a lot of cap room for Golden State to make some future moves, but it ain't going to happen.

I can only speak for myself when I say that i don't think the Warriors have enough quality pieces to make Orlando want to trade Dwight Howard.

Some here think Curry is a superstar. I am not one of those people. He's a really good young player with a lot of talent, but when you walk up to a true NBA fan and say, "quick, name the best point guard in the NBA" the names that are going to roll off their tongues are Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Dwayne Wade. A few might mention Deron Williams and possibly John Wall.

The ONLY person who might mention Curry is a die-hard Warrior fan. Even then, he's going to phrase it in such a way as to let you know that he really likes Curry because he's a fan of Golden State.

Bottom line is that Dwight Howard is easily one of the best and most dominant players in the NBA regardless of position. Step Curry is not even one of the best point guards in the league, let alone one of the best players. And he and Monta are far and away the two best players on the team. So what we have is Orlando trading a true superstar for a solid role player and .... junk.

Well we agree with the above.
We just don't agree on type of injuries to Bynum and Curry. Bynum is a big that goes out with knee injuries for the season. Curry, in his 3rd season has had some ankle sprains that need to strengthen up.

In baseball, I love having owners who are willing/able to spend, to make a big splash. No salary cap. Not my money. Screw it, give me Fielder!!

Of course, the NBA doesn't work that way. I wonder if the current Warrior owners will be willing/able to come up with a four/five year plan to build this team into something special? Will they have the patience for such a plan? Or are they hell bent on making a big splash...even when making one is unrealistic? Or only marginally improves the team?
