Simpson wouldn't do us any good this season because he was suspended for the beginning of the year. That said, he was a legitimate 2nd receiver and was very dangerous. Defensive coordinators couldn't just let the guy run free against a 2nd rate corner. Look at some of the explosive games he has had in his short career. Was he consistent? No, not at all. But he dictated game plans by being so athletic and dangerous.

My point was more about the fact that we lost a receiver that wasn't great but caused coordinators problems and replaced him with a bunch of crap. That was on display all last night. You could hear the pain in Collinsworth's voice - He didn't want to criticize specific players but he basically said what we already knew - The Bengals 2nd receiver position is an embarrassment and it's causing trouble for the team.

I agree we replaced him with a pile of crap.....my point about Simpson is he's garbage and getting rid of him is addition by subtraction.....I still think the 2 may be here (Sanu or Jones) but we've been going with Binns and Tate until now....would have been interesting to see Jones play the whole game last night as evidently was the plan.....we easily could have signed a vet so that this year would be taken care of while Sanu and Jones painlessly developed, but that would have made too much sense, wouldn't it?

I'm sick and tired of being Pittsburgh's bitch, aren't you?

I agree, but we knew it was a toss-up whether Marvin would actually play Jones. And I still don't think it was addition by subtraction with Simpson. He was a knucklehead and he never maximized his talent, but I don't think he was much of a distraction to the team. He played hard and he made some big plays.

You make good points, cincygrad, but I'm with bengaldoug on this one. For instance, I was one of the few that was glad to see Plaxico leave the Steelers, mostly for his knuckleheadedness, and a few years later my stance was vindicated.

Sure. But you're a Steeler fan. When you guys let someone go, the replacement is already in sight. When we let someone go, we move up a guy from the practice squad and have Hobs right a fluff piece about him with the hopes that a miracle will occur.

I wanted them to bring Rome back (especially after they didnt make a play for anyone in FA). He's a dummy...but he's a our dummy. Plus, like Grad said he's athletic enough to where you cannot sleep on him as a D. People might point to his success as a Bengal being due to lining up opposite AJ...but his best games came when AJ was not on the field.
