One team will get a 10+ point lead, and then blow it in the 4th quarter...question is, which one? I think it's a push.

Steelers are still reeling from key injuries and just a complete lack of execution when needed late in games. I would say they are getting too old, but many of the problems and injuries lie with our younger players.

Bengals 20, Steelers 17
Anti-jinx post worked.

You didn't need it. You absolutely own us. Same way every time. Whenever the Steelers are struggling, the prescription is a game at Paul Brown Stadium vs the Bengals.

Still, I had nowhere near the level of confidence about this game, considering how we "handled" teams like the Raiders and Titans. Guess I shoulda known better.

Did you guys trade aj green during halftime?

Kinda looked that way, didn't it? Our whole team, from the coaching staff on down, just goes to pieces when confronted by the Steelers. It's become sickening.

well, I would double cover him if I were Pittsburgh.

A double covered AJGreen is still better than a single covered Binns.

You have to take your shots deep. Even if they are incomplete you still show the D that you are willing to go there. What we can see happening is that the Bengals routes/throws are so predictable that the D just tees off on them. When did Jay Gruden turn into Bob Bratkowski, anyway? The playcalling over the past couple weeks has been beyond terrible.

Our receivers are being exposed as the weeks go by, and it's not going to get better. The announcers really made a point of it last night showing how even when we loaded the side with Green and left the receiver opposite of him alone, the defense showed no respect for that receiver.

At times they were triple covering Green with soft help inside. At the very least they had a safety over top focused in along with Ike Taylor. It really doesn't leave many options to go deep, nor does Dalton have the accuracy to hit Green where he needs to.

With the way the Steelers were defending Green, just going deep for the sake of going deep wasn't going to accomplish much. It would not have opened up the weak coverage on other players nor changed how they defended Green as he was already being double.

Furthermore, Hawkins is on film and teams are taking him away. Given his 5'7" height, there is little threat that he poses downfield. Can they do better in giving him reverse handoffs, sure, but overall he's very limited in what he can do.

While playcalling can certainly be better, much of it is on the limited personnel.

I still think you have to at least try to keep the defenses honest by showing your willingness to throw deep. I think that really what we are seeing here is chickens coming home to roost. The #2 WR was a clear need going in to last offseason. The Bengals tried to get by Binns and Tate. That is really coming back to bite them in the ass. Hopefully Jones isnt hurt too bad as he is the only guy that can pose a vertical threat opposite AJ.

But I thought losing Jerome Simpson would have no impact on this team? LOL! Our fans are the best.

We desperately need a veteran number 2 receiver. Hell, Plaxico Burress would have helped tremendously.

Do you really believe Simpson was an asset here? He dropped as many passes as he caught, and was a pothead. The second part of your post was spot on. I was screaming for a vet for this year so that Jones and Sanu could break in slowly. I never wanted Binns and Tate as the #2. I'd take Burress in a heartbeat right now.

Simpson wouldn't do us any good this season because he was suspended for the beginning of the year. That said, he was a legitimate 2nd receiver and was very dangerous. Defensive coordinators couldn't just let the guy run free against a 2nd rate corner. Look at some of the explosive games he has had in his short career. Was he consistent? No, not at all. But he dictated game plans by being so athletic and dangerous.

My point was more about the fact that we lost a receiver that wasn't great but caused coordinators problems and replaced him with a bunch of crap. That was on display all last night. You could hear the pain in Collinsworth's voice - He didn't want to criticize specific players but he basically said what we already knew - The Bengals 2nd receiver position is an embarrassment and it's causing trouble for the team.
