Frankenstein's Army. Once it actually gets into it...it's good. Some pretty gruesome and F'ed up things in it. Which I love. 6.5/10.

Damn this looks crazy! I'll be shuffling this one to the top of my list. Thanks for the recommendation! :suds:

Yea, he's right, slow to start but then you will see some crazy shit that is going on at this facility.

Well worth a watch. That 6.5 rating is spot on I would say.

American Poltergeist (2015)

If you are in the mood for watching a bunch of stupid bimbos slaughter acting like none-other and not even show any nudity then this one is just for you. This one has it all: bad acting, bad plot, bad writing. You will not like any of the characters, and it isn't scary at all. It used every tired horror cliché in remarkably horrible fashion. The back story surely could have been better if they hadn't tried to tack it to a real historic and researchable case. A little more imagination could have gone a long way. The acting is so wooden that it could have been done better with hand puppets. Truly awful casting on this. I found it hilarious that these people were given jobs in acting. They must have knob-slobbered their way up the food chain to get these roles. It's just a horrible, horrible movie that has already been made a hundred times over. Don't bother with this film, as I'm sure there is some drying paint that needs watching?

Get highly intoxicated beforehand... 3/10

Oh, the horror...the horror! :sad2:

Does The Mist count? I've seen it before last night but it's one of those movies that i'll normally watch every time it's on. That ending is brutal.

Hell yea it counts! Love that movie! We just had a discussion on it a few pages back I believe!?

I learned that the ending was redone and didn't follow the book. Food for thought!

Wouldn't be as awesome as it is if they didn't have it in there, in my opinion. Great movie, but the ending just topped it off.

Couldn't agree more... Its usually the movies that have a climax that goes against the grain and surprises the crap out of people that often get remembered the most. Even if someone didn't like or agree with the ending, they can still appreciate the effect it had on the entire movie.

It may have upset some people, but it for sure pulled it off!

Love love love that movie. It was on cable again last night.

Btw, for you cable subscribers, I highly recommend IFC (Independent Film Channel). Shows all kinds of movies (The Mist last night) and goes off on Horror tangents now and then. The movies have commercials, but they're unedited. Good channel.

I watched Frankenstein's Army awhile back. Crazy movie. The monsters were great. The story was ok. The story execution was a bit sketchy and the acting was neither existant nor really necessary .

Just watched What We Do In The Dark. Horror comedy about a group of vampire roommates. More comedy than horror but some pretty funny stuff. If you enjoy making fun of the vampire genre it is worth a watch. However the concept does drag on. Even though it was not a long movie it would have been better if it was shorter.

AND they don't go to commercial and then speed forward to a different spot after they come back from commercial. I love that channel. So many great movies on there.

Dark Was The Night (2015)

I have to say Kevin Durand worked well with this low budget movie and made it into a great film after all was said & done. Don't expect high quality horror from it, but I do appreciate the fact that the director did focus on tense moments and suspense rather than just on cheap scare tricks. It builds up the tension & suspense really well! The CGI is low budget as expected but they did do a good job at keeping it away from the screen until the last moment, making the audience grip on to find out what was hiding in those woods all this time. Acting is really good and the plot entices the story very well all throughout. There were some mistakes and clichés here and there, but nothing that would spoil the great action & suspense that this movie brought. It is sort of a cross between a good werewolf movie & 30 Days of Night.

Awesome! 8/10

The Cutting Room (2015)

If you follow my posts then you know I'm on a British Horror kick of sorts so I was eager to give this one go. But this one fell very short of expectations. This movie was extremely boring for the first 45 minutes, offering literally nothing to the viewer to keep them hooked. It is overloaded with soap opera dialogue, where nobody opens their mouth except to deliver an insult or utter the f-word. The characters are deeply irritating from the start and the plot is simply juvenile. Only 73 mins, but it feels like hours. The camera work is the worst that I have literally EVER seen from a "first person" shooting technique. More than 75% of the dark scenes the camera doesn't even line up with the flashlight so you have no fucking clue what the hell you are watching or supposed to be looking at. Once the "scary" parts start its more just about a creepy dude in a mask chasing dumbass delinquents around a dungeon of sorts. Then it abruptly ends and everyone is dead. Sorry for the spoilers, but I just saved you 70+ minutes of your life. I usually refrain from using the term garbage, but this one is worthy of such an adjective.

Hot garbage... 2/10

Unfriended (2015)

Finally got around to watching this since it was posted online recently. I wrote a preview a long time ago in this thread somewhere. I'll start by saying the plot was interesting, original, and the progression keeps you hooked. So in that sense it accomplished its mission. But I found a lot of 'knocks' which kinda diluted the entire experience for me. It could just be how my brain operates, so don't take it as a blanket negative and not give it a chance. The acting was typical of teenaged kids, but they were at least believable. Teenagers are in & of themselves, stupid... We all were at some point. So it was to be expected. The filming was innovative, but to me it could have been a much better film if they varied from "computer screen" to actual filming (watch The Den if you agree). Watching everything through the eyes of the girls computer kind of dulled the suspense. However, I will say that it implemented a lot of old fashioned scare techniques into new methods. Kind of cool to see how people are integrating technology into the horror genre. But don't get your hopes up for a really good horror flick, because it will disappoint you.

Innovative, but dull... 6/10

I watched a movie called Excision last night. Quite a twisted piece of work! (Note: I can't post a trailer link from my cell. If someone wants to, go ahead please.)

It is about a really bizarre 18 year old girl with no normal social skills to speak of and a very repressive home life due to an overbearing mother. She has this fantasy of being a surgeon but has no formal training.

The cast is steller with Ray Wise (is he in everything now?), Malcom McDowell, John Waters (as a priest!), and Traci Lords (as the overbearing repressive mother! Yes, THAT Traci Lords playing repressed, and she does a good job of it).

Is it a horror movie? Kind of. If you took Carrie, Napoleon Dynamite, American Mary, and Heathers, and put them all in a blender, then had John Waters (there was a reason why they cast him in this) serve it to you, then you might come close to what this is.

If you like strange, then this is right up your alley. Don't go in expecting stereotypical.

My wife absolutely hated it. I thought it was interesting.

Great writeup jake! :suds:

Looks pretty interesting and I will have to check it out. Reminds me of an even stranger trailer that I watched recently... I'll write a preview or sorts in a second on it

As promised @jakedog56 ...

Preview (already out):

Felt (2015)

Synopsis: A woman creates an alter ego in hopes of overcoming the trauma inflicted by men in her life.

This looks really... interesting? Interesting took place of "really messed up" lol. Most of you know that I like psychological horror but this one has me a bit hesitant to watch... It looks far outta left field so-to-speak. I will probably watch this one on my own as it doesn't appeal to the wifey.

That looks really f'd up. But not necessarily in a good way. It could be good or it could just be a man-hating thing.

One movie that you might have already seen that is a similar vein as these last couple is May from 2002. It was the first full length release from director Lucky McGee, who has gone on to do some interesting flicks like All Cheerleaders Die, The Woods, and The Woman. He is releasing one called Tales of Halloween this year which could be good.

Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)

Finally watched it. Gotta say this wasn't my favorite of the trilogy so far. But I did like some of the elements that they stuck true with. I keep fearing that one of these successors will deviate from the norm and let Hollywood ruin it. But so far they have been doing a great job. The story in this one could have used a little more imagination since it was really cut & dry. Viewers that have watched the previous 2 films know what to expect, and aren't surprised by anything which I think is somewhat of a drag. I was hoping for more shock value, but it didn't deliver. In a nutshell, all you get is Insidious 1 with a different set of characters and a different setting. However, you will love the filming and scare tactics. The director & producers have done a great job with that in each film.

Hoped for something better... 6/10
