Heck, even the 2000-02 Lakers would wipe the floor with this Heat team

Just as they wiped the floor with the pacers? People need to understand that the nba is different now in terms of how teams go about filling their roster so comparing teams in the late 80s/early 90s to the 2011-2014 heat. Chris Bosh wouldn't be a center if he played in the late 80s/early 90s as Miami would play with a real center because most teams had actual centers back then instead of going small and using pfs as center which is what's happening now.

Basketball reached a pinnacle of perfection from '86 to '88. The '86 Celtics and '87 Lakers (who repeated in '88) were basketball perfection. They utterly devastated whoever they played. The Showtime defense and fast break would wreak utter and complete havoc on these spoiled brats of the NBA today.

That would be the 95-96 Bulls. Only team EVER over 70 wins...

With four more wins, the Miami Heat will match one of Michael Jordan's greatest feats -- three straight NBA championships -- but former Bull Horace Grant says that doesn't mean LeBron James' team could have beaten those Chicago teams.

"The Heat wouldn't have had a chance," Grant said Tuesday on WSCR-AM in Chicago. "We would have locked them up. We would have locked them up. Especially with the rules today, Michael would have had a field day."

The Heat are in their fourth straight NBA Finals and will face the San Antonio Spurs for the second year in a row. Game 1 is Thursday night in San Antonio (9 ET, ABC).

Jordan led the Bulls to three straight NBA championships from 1991 to '93 and then did it again upon coming back from retirement with three titles from 1996 to '98. The Los Angeles Lakers were the last team to win three championships in a row (2000-02).

Nostalgia sure does have a way of embellishing the past doesn't it.

So... the 95 Magic can beat the Bulls team, but the Heat wouldn't even have a chance? The 92 Knicks can take those Bulls to 7, the 98 Pacers can take them to 7, the 92 cavs 92 Blazers, 93 knicks etc can all compete in a 6 game series with them... but this Heat team would get demolished?

The 88 Jazz and 88 Mavs can take the showtime Lakers to 7 games, but this Heat team wouldn't win 1 in 100?

To say, either way, that one team wouldn't be even be competitive against the other is sensationalistic delusion.

Enjoy your nostalgic-modified history... I've been watching a lot of these teams on DVD in recent weeks. (I have an embarrassingly large collection of old NBA playoff games on DVD) To say they were great teams would be an understatement. But to say that the best teams today couldn't hang with them is a complete abandonment of reality. (And easy to do in Horace's case, since the prospect of actually playing it out on the court is an impossibility)

So you're saying the 2000/02 Lakers wouldn't beat down the Heat?

Who did they play in the finals again? They played shitty teams and one of those shitty teams took you 6 games. This heat group are MUCH MUCH better than the Sixers, nets, and Pacers.

Say what you want about the heat but they always faced a legit team.

So you don't agree. I will say talent wise those teams are better, but they played different. Why don't we set up the matchup on 2K and see if Lebron doesn't go off for 60. And MJ too.

Trivia question: Which GOAT player was just came back from a two year absence in 1995?

KD, Westbrook, and Ibaka would have a field day on them. And you have pretty good defenders to guard Shaq and Kobe with Sefalosha and Perkins.

And the Lakers didn't have to play against Western Conference teams that had 50-60 wins each season?

You put the 2014 Heat in the West during the early 2000s and they don't even make the conference finals!

Willing to bet $100 you never watched any NBA ball before 2006, right?

Yep, because they were the only game in town. No Lakers, no Celtics and no Bad Boyz. The NBA was a cakewalk for Michael. That team wasn't very good at all.
