With four more wins, the Miami Heat will match one of Michael Jordan's greatest feats -- three straight NBA championships -- but former Bull Horace Grant says that doesn't mean LeBron James' team could have beaten those Chicago teams.

"The Heat wouldn't have had a chance," Grant said Tuesday on WSCR-AM in Chicago. "We would have locked them up. We would have locked them up. Especially with the rules today, Michael would have had a field day."

The Heat are in their fourth straight NBA Finals and will face the San Antonio Spurs for the second year in a row. Game 1 is Thursday night in San Antonio (9 ET, ABC).

Jordan led the Bulls to three straight NBA championships from 1991 to '93 and then did it again upon coming back from retirement with three titles from 1996 to '98. The Los Angeles Lakers were the last team to win three championships in a row (2000-02).

I agree. I doubt the Heat win 1 game vs those Bulls teams. The only reason Jordan doesn't have 8 straight titles is because the 2 years in between he took off to play baseball.

If we allow the advancements in sports science I think this goes 7. If we are just talking about monopoly on talent, yes those bulls had all of it in comparison.

As for the rules MJ would have to play against a team that plays D, forearm shivering anybody who comes through the lane is not D and that was outlawed before MJ won a title.

The only reason Jordan doesn't have 8 straight titles is because the 2 years he was banned from the sport for Pete Rosing.

Yea...no. This is one of the dumber things people say about MJ. The team was blown up after the 3rd and they went through a rebuild.

Heck, even the 2000-02 Lakers would wipe the floor with this Heat team

I could see either version of the Bulls championship teams beating Miami in 6. I agree with Grant about Jordan having a field day, although it's not like Mike had to play by the same set of rules as most everyone else once he became the leagues undeniable main attraction. He was getting the calls by the time his championship years came around.

Miami might lose 0-12 in 3 sweeps versus those teams.
That would be a horrible matchup nightmare for them.
Matchups sometimes have more impact than overall team greatness.

They would be far more competitive versus the 1990s Bulls, especially the older 96-98 era ones.
Miami could win at least one series with the 1990s Bulls.
It would not be some overwhelming matchup nightmare like the 00-02 Lakers.

Not to change the subject but if this Heat team played the '87 Lakers 100 times, they wouldn't win one damn game. The Showtime fast break and defense would devastate them.

You under estimate the advancements in sports science, but if we are talking a monopoly on talent, then yes, 87 Lakers had all the talent.

That's bullshit. Those Lakers teams were more athletic than these lazy Heat clowns.

Take 5 min to watch this and tell me I'm wrong.

Dude how those Lakers teams lost to anyone but the Celtics amazes me.

Not even a Lakers fan but I randomly wear socks up to my throat as a homage to Micheal Cooper

It would be great to be a kid again and watch the Celtics vs Lakers NBA Finals again

Basketball reached a pinnacle of perfection from '86 to '88. The '86 Celtics and '87 Lakers (who repeated in '88) were basketball perfection. They utterly devastated whoever they played. The Showtime defense and fast break would wreak utter and complete havoc on these spoiled brats of the NBA today.

This Heat team should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as that Bulls team. Nor the Showtime Lakers, or even Kobe/Shaq Lakers.

You're right. It's downright disrespectful.

I would assume that these scenarios are done "all things being equal". So you would either allow the sports science advancements for the team from the past, or disallow them for the present day team.

Nope, I'm talking straight-up! Showtime would run the legs off the Heat and the '88 Lakers proved that they could beat a far-superior half-court team in the Bad Boyz.

Heck, the 80's Celtics are looked at as this slow it down, physical type of team and their fast break was better than anything in today's league. People forget just how good those Celtics teams were on offense. Just as they tend to underrate the Showtime Lakers defense.
