Miller is a no-brainer. Should’ve been in long before now. Can’t fathom how a panel made up of former players that benefited greatly from his contributions have failed to grasp that.

Whitaker I’ve always thought was deserving. He’s unquestionably better than many 2B’s that are in.

Heck I’d think a reasonable argument could probably be made that every player on this list was a better player and more deserving HOFer than Harold Baines whom the other committee put in last year.

I feel like Miller has been kept out of the Hall based solely on his insistence on sporting the mustache of a racist 1930's slumlord well in to the 80's.

Still trying to understand why Dave Parker isn't in the HOF.

Marginal Hall of Fame stats ... great outfield arm and always a presence on the field ... he'd have my vote, but I think a 40.1 WAR hurts him.

and most of that WAR came from 6 seasons ('75-79, '85). in fact, those were his only seasons with even 2+ WAR.

If you are a WAR7 fan, that is not a bad thing.

Except the fact that his WAR7 just isn’t that dominating.

yeah. it's 29th all-time among RF between Brian Giles and Dwight Evans (who had a lot of good seasons outside of those 7 years, he also had 14 seasons with 3+ WAR). Bobby Abreu's WAR7 ranks 17th all-time among RF (0.5 wins below the HOF watermark) and he's on the HOF ballot this year. he had a great run from 98-04 (.308/.416/.525, 143 OPS+, 203 stolen bases, 41.6 WAR). he ranks 5th in fWAR over that 7 year stretch behind Bonds, A-Rod, Rolen and Andruw Jones.

I agree that he was definitely a presence on the field. When he was playing the Phillies and Pirates were in the same division so I saw him play a lot and he was one of the guys you didn't want to see at the plate. One of the more "feared" hitters in the game for a few years.

If you look at his stats it definitely looks like he was just collecting a paycheck for those last 5-6 years. It would have been interesting if he could have hung on for 2 1/2 more mediocre years and gotten 3,000 hits. His lifetime WAR might have gone down but he might have gotten more Hall of Fame consideration.

He had a lot of respect around the league though. Even some of those later years when he had a WAR under 2 he was still getting MVP votes.

Parker's more Hall of Very Good to me than Hall of Fame.

Not a single person on there deserves to be in the HOF. Definitely deserves the hall of worthy of consideration but not HOF worthy.

All but Murphy own border-property. Murphy, I think, was legit over looked.

The problem with Murphy was that he had 6 seasons that were good or better, and the rest of his career was mediocre on the whole. I don't think those 6 seasons were good enough to overcompensate for the rest.

I still support Murphy getting in to the Hall. Think he's been overlooked for to long.

This is where I think the HOF is messed up though in every sport. There are a ton Murphy’s in the HOF in other sports. But to me, which is way off this topic and way too late for the Pandora’s box is that if you have to advocate for someone then that person isn’t HOF worthy. I’m a homer for Edgar Martinez and think he was the best RH hitter from 92-2001 but he wasn’t a real HOFer. The fact that Mariano Rivera was the first unanimous HOF inductee in baseball shows the system is flawed and the HOF worthy should all be in the hall.

But, everyone on the OP list >>> Harold Baines.

He had a lot of respect around the league though.

Coke dealers always have lots of friends.

No one on that list jumps out to me as HOF worthy, not even Dewey who I was a huge fan of.

They're all really good players, but greatness eluded them IMO.

Also, fuck Marvin Miller.

I agree, the horse got out of the barn long ago. Cooperstown is now the hall of very good and has become something of a shrine to stat compilers.
