Maybe Lou Whitaker finally gets in. And Tommy John should be in the Hall just for inventing that surgery.

Miller is an obvious choice but they'll probably keep snubbing him.

Murphy and Simmons would be my choices to make the Hall on that list.

I don't have a problem with any of these players not making the HOF...

But if one was to make it, I would give it Thurman Munson.... Catchers have different standards, and Munson was elite for the bulk of his career... that of course ended short...

so, he has the tragedy angle, the catcher angle, and the eliteness angle...

I would be ok with Dale Murphy too... and even Lou whitaker… don't think anyone else is even close... Not even Mattingly...

What would you say about Miller?

I got you to look him up, that's all I was aiming for . A lot of guys who owe a hell of a lot to Marvin didn't check his box last time. I hope they've reconsidered.

Whitaker and Miller are an easy yes IMO. I'd put Evans, Munson and Simmons in as well. Parker, Murphy and Mattingly had good peaks but didn't do a lot outside of those years. Garvey would probably be worst HOF inductee in a long time.

why is whitaker an "EASY YES"?? i wouldn't be upset if he makes it, but he seems very borderline to me...

i agree Garvey should not even be a serious candidate... But maybe that is more of WHY he will make it... the old Harrold Baines argument...

Yep, pretty much single handedly got rid of the Reserve Clause.

he's a 2nd baseman who hit .276/.363/.426 (117 OPS+) with just shy of 10,000 PA (10th all-time among 2B). not only does that make him one of the greatest hitting 2nd basemen, but he did it for a very long time by 2B standards. and that's before you account for defense, where he is widely considered to be a very good defender (whether by eye test, Gold Gloves or dWAR).

Dale Murphy is the only one who jumps for me. Maybe Lou, but the constant Detroit bitching on him has soured me to his inclusion.

If Curt Flood isn’t in, why should Tommy John?

Only speaking players here. But Munson and Murphy are the only 2 I would let in.

Lou is close. But out. The rest I don’t think are even close.

"Sweet" Lou Whitaker is part of an amazing double play combination that lasted 19 years together. Whitaker also has a WAR greater than any of the other players listed. Not one controversy during his career. It is sad that Whitaker received on 2.9% of the vote his first year.

just looking at Whitaker's stats again it is weird how his OPS was so good in the last 5 years of his career (ages 34-38). I know you said there were no controversies, but is it possible he was eating cereal with Lenny Dykstra?

Lou Whitaker was very religious (Jehovah's Witness) so I seriously doubt any use of PED's, but to say it was impossible would never be correct either. Lou never sought fame, however that does not stop long time Tigers fans (like myself) from keeping his name in the spotlight!! Lou also trains with the Tigers during spring training every year.

No reason to doubt ... I am making a case for Lou Whitaker.

19 years with one team
19 years as part of a great double play combination (with Hall of Famer Alan Trammell)
75.1 WAR (49th among position players ... 78th overall)
Always a gentleman
No Controversies
Rookie of the Year
3 Gold Gloves
4 Silver Sluggers
1 World Series Champion.

Whitaker's an interesting case. I wouldn't put him in but if he got in I wouldn't mind.
