Citizens are free to say whatever they want in regards to Chick-Fil-A. They are free to not eat there. A government official (Boston's Mayor) is quoted saying:

For me it honestly depends on the situation, case-by-case.

I would have no issue whatsoever if he was speaking as a private citizen. A politician has the same free speech protections as the rest of us when they're speaking as private citizens or expressing their personal opinion on something.
