I think they need to find a way to get rid of Brown and his salary and then it seems a lot more plausible.

That would be the best option for multiple reasons, not to mention resigning Lucic.

He has delivered as a King in terms of fitting into the style, the team seems to like him and he wants to stay. He isn't putting up 25 goals like he used to (I think he will top out at 21 this year) but he does a lot of the stuff Brown used to do but stil puts up big points (like Brown used to do and by "big" I mean important. Half this guy's goals are GW goals). I have maintained he was the beta to see if Brown could be replaced - not a replacement for Williams like many stated - when he was acquired and I think he has passed that test.

In addition, seeing the nastiness of Lucic is refreshing. I don't agree with how he reacted against Feenix but loved the response. He didn't tolerate that dude's bullshit and when he saw nothing was called he self policed. Think that dude won't remember that for next time? Think again, the message was sent not only to him but also to teams that nonsense will be dealt with swiftly and with force. That keeps the ice clean for guys like Carter, Kopitar, Doughty, Gaborik, etc.

Brown is simply an anchor these days both financially and for production, so as sad as people will be when he is traded is needs to happen for this franchise to move on. This team is Kopitar's and Doughty's moving forward and much like when the torch was passed to Brown from Norstrom that time has come for him to pass it on to these guys. To me they have shown more ownership than Brown has in recent years anyway.

It's going to be extremely difficult to move him, we all need to lay that expectation down right off the bat. However, if Dumbo found a taker in a severely diminished, overpaid player like Richards with a drug problem then moving Brown is not remotely close to being impossible. Now unless Brown has some strange fetish or is into some questionable character flaws we don't know about, there should be takers for him this summer.

Going on record: enjoy the final season of Brown in LA.

The issue with Brown is his limited no trade clause. I don't know all the details but he can give a list of 6 teams he can't be traded to. If he does his homework he could eliminate most teams.

I am still living the dream of the Vegas Knights drafting him.

The Kings have 7 players with NTC/NMCs. The 4 NTCs are Brown, Lucic, Schenn and Quick with Brown's restrictions being he can choose 7 teams he doesn't want to go to. The key here is it is an NTC, he can be waived or demoted, which would be a worst case scenario.

The full NMCs are Kopitar (you were correct on the clause being retro to an existing contract. Good eye), Lecavalier and Ehrhoff.

The latter two won't be here at the end of the season so no big but I am a bit surprised at the high numbers of clauses on the Kings. Granted Dumbo only dished out 3 of those (Ehrhoff, Brown and Kopitar) and acquired the others but for a guy who isn't a fan of them the number caught me by surprise.

That'll be in the AHL right?

=)~~

When I read the deal I had to look it up. I remember someone being traded to the Kings before his ntc was in effect. I think the PA fought to have the CBA amended so you couldn't trade a guy right after he signed. Kind of a dick move but it happens.

AHL NHL whatever
If Vegas gets a team they might want a player like Brown. And they would have the cap space.

Didn't they sign Lubo and he was traded before his NTC/NMC took effect? :heh:

Yup, that's who it was and the Kings were the trading team. Visnovsky had 1 year left on his 3 year/$5.472 million deal (2007-08). On July 11, 2007 he signed his 5 year/$28 million deal. The deal would have taken effect July 1, 2008 and included a NTC. On June 30, 2008 - 1 day before the deal kicked in - they traded him to Edmonton for Greene and Stoll.

This is great, from Dumbo the day the deal was signed:

“Whenever you’re building a team you’ve got to have defensemen that have an offensive dimension and can make plays," Lombardi said. "He’s been a King from day one, which is important, and when you have a quality player like him, it’s important to keep your own. I think that signifies a commitment to continuity. I think players like Lubo make all of the players around him better because of the way he plays. That’s what good defensemen do and that’s why defensemen are important.”

Greene and Stoll played big roles on the way to the first Cup but wow...talk about a dick move as you said.

Well if they can't move him expect him to be eligible for the expansion team, no way he is on this team next year.

Expansion won't be until 2017 at the earliest if I recall, so unless something drastically accelerates that plan no player will be on an Eligible List this summer. That leaves 3 options:

- trade him
- buyout during the June 15 buyout period
- waive him

Each one of those options has its own set of pros and cons, but the worst of all would waiving him and not having him picked up. He will sit in the minors but the hit will still be on the books. A trade would be best, even with some salary retention to clear up cap space and keep Lucic.

Also think Pearson is gone by the end of the season. He simply has stalled out after a very promising start to his career. I think he would be better off in a more offensive system than LA, maybe Detroit and their puck possession game but not nearly as physical as LA.
