I liked Dunbar a lot. He was Grudens boy and wanted a new deal or out of town when Jay got fired. Riverboat Ron said see ya. I like the attitude Rivera is bringing to DC but I think I’d rather have Dunbar than a 5th but time will tell. Good luck :suds:

Quite a bit of discussion in the offseason thread on this trade.

I read he wants a new deal and Washington was not ready to give him one and so he asked to be traded. I'm not sure what this means for Seattle.

He performed very well last year, but it remains to be proven if he can stay healthy and perform at that level consistently.

Either way it's a very low risk pickup... hopefully he'll play this year on a 'prove it' plan and we can take advantage of using our draft capital on the OL/DL since it doesn't seem like Clowney is possible with only $18M left in cap room (best we can hope for is Griffen) and who knows with Ifedi...

He seems like a bit of a ball hawk. If we use a strong press coverage, it could turn into some good stats given his height.

Yah, hopefully he stays healthy and can play a year for us. He'll be 28 in July which means 29 next year. I'm not sure how I feel about throwing any sort of contract his way at the moment. Hopefully the expectation post trade is he plays a 'prove it' year on our team. That'd be ideal.

I'm not exactly thrilled on spending big bucks on a corner with little history and not a lot of starting time.

It's the reason despite Hollister and Dissly's decent play, I was fine with the Olsen signing. Just not enough consistency there to make me feel comfortable going in with those two and Ed Dickson which was a major bust signing (how the fuck is that guy still on our roster!?!).

1 year rental for a 5th that they will most likely get back in the upcoming draft. If healthy he will help the back end there is no doubts about that and no long term contract means they can let him walk when they tend to let CB walk. At around 29 years old.

Too bad Washington wouldn't take Thompson instead of the fifth.

With the way Seattle has been drafting in the 5th round lately I would rather use that pick on a veteran than just miss it total

I can see Flowers still playing on the outside, in the Nickle package though with Dunbar sliding into the nickle spot. ( he is WAY quicker than flowers and can cover the quick twitch guys.)

He could be our versatile DB that Carroll likes... He can play CB and Safety... He played Safety his entire college career... He could be a backup at both positions and play the nickel package...

Yeah i feel that also Anointed, he could make a good safety where he keeps his eyes on the QB then flips and runs. His sub 4.5 speed would make him faster than Diggs and McDougald and he is almost 6 foot 3 inches tall. I get why they moved him to CB but he could be a solid 5th DB ( Play outside in the nickle and fill in for safety when needed )

Fentress offers some pretty good perspective on Dunbar.

Specifically he points out that while Dunbar rated highly in 2019, he played a pretty weak crop of QBs. His 2018 numbers were much more pedestrian when he played a much tougher group of QBs.

He also says it is premature to assume he will take the RCB starting gig. It's entirely possible that he winds up being the nickel corner and Flowers retains the RCB spot.

Ultimately its a good deal for the Hawks because A) he doesn't cost a ton of money and B) we are almost certain to get better production from him than from the 5th round pick we traded.

Dunbar wanted to get paid and not play on his current contract. He has outperformed his current contract a bit however, Dunbar is hurt a lot, is a converted WR and other than last year where he played well but also missed a few games, he has been average at best. His demands to a new regime made him expendable. Should be interesting to see what type of play Seattle gets from Dunbar in his contract year and "if" he can just keep his mouth closed and play.

That just free'd up 3.5 million more that we can throw at Clowney...
