This season has had some stunning upsets. Is this where parity meets reality, or is it pure chance?

Idk exactly what you mean, but I love it. "Any given Sunday" is exactly what the NFL is supposed to be about and that's never been more true than this season.

Reality is that parity is an idealistic concept but not a realistic achievement. The league tinkers with the rules every season in the hope of producing parity, but the truth is that their playing around is just window dressing. We have too many teams. We don't have enough NFL-level player to fill the teams, yet the league continues to seek more teams. We don't have enough coaches and staff to run the current teams, either, and as long as the billionaires club of owners won't really police itself, we will always have teams where mediocrity is hereditary.

Just not a good season, and the better teams are getting worn down.

It does feel like any team (except for the Lions, Texans, and Jaguars) can beat any other team.

Fixed it.

The Jets have been competitive lately, albeit their win 2 weeks ago was against the Texans, but the Philly game wasn't out of reach until the 4th quarter and they did beat the Bengals. Maybe I'm being influenced by fantasy football, as Elijah Moore has really emerged as a weapon.

To be fair to Jax, they did beat the Bills.

It feels like it was more about the Bills struggling. I really thought the Bills would be dominant this year, but somehow they are only 7-5.

Yeah, they are up and down like crazy. Can't seem to string 2 good games together. A lot of teams doing that this season.

Disagree strongly on both counts. Teams get "worn down" every season. That's just part of the deal. But there has never been more talent in the league than there is now and it is fairly widely and evenly distributed.

This season has been fantastic so far. How is having 19 teams' fan bases still enthusiastically engaged in their team's playoff prospects in December a bad thing? Or the fact that there are probably a dozen teams with a legitimate shot as a Super Bowl? This isn't a good season. It's a great one.

I'm beginning to think that Belichick actually is a genius. It must be fun to be a Pats fan.
It's been a great ride but I thought they were going back to the bad old days that I tell my son about.
He can't comprehend how bad they were, not selling out, never being on TV.
I knock on wood every game and take nothing for granted*.

*Except the Jets.

I don't see 19 teams' fan bases being enthusiastically engaged. The Rams fan base certainly isn't and we're a top 10 team. People have been worn down by rule changes, taunting penalties, game steering by referees, injuries, the extended but uneven schedule, inconsistent play, mediocrity, and that doesn't touch on a certain non-football topic that has impacted people's lives for the last 21 months. Maybe more people will look back on this season fondly. Maybe it's just me.

Aside from the Lakers at times, LA is notorious for being a bad sports city and having a disinterested fan base. But when a team is in the playoff hunt its fan base is more engaged and into it. That's a pretty common phenomena elsewhere. So yea, it's probably just you.... or you & LA.
