This was shady.

Although, I have to imagine there's been at least a hint prior to today. Seems odd that it would be fine one minute and his offer is pulled the next. Conversations have to have happened before this -- right?

Not good enough. He's either shady or he isn't. You called Urban shady based off of what he did. Don't be a hypocrite, either Harbaugh is shady, or Urban isn't.

We haven't greyshirted anyone since last year.
Which would be a good argument if it was more than, IDK, maybe more than a year since it's happened.

Why do you care all of the sudden that Bama has grayshirted? This past season I told you that Bama, Colorado & Kansas State have all done that before. Oddly enough you said that Colorado & Kansas State weren't big enough programs so they didn't count. And when I mentioned Bama you had no comment. Of course ya jumped right up on your high-horse & bitched that Ohio State has done the same thing in the past though.

It's a scummy practice all around IF not explained to the recruit well in advance. IE -- the recruit is offered a greyshirt offer from the start.

Well for the record, one of the guys being counted on this class for Alabama is a greyshirt from last year.

I have no problem with it AT ALL. If a guy wants to be part of the team that bad, then more power to him. If he had decided not too greyshirt, I would have understood that as well.

You guys just don't get it an SEC team does then it is shady if a Big 10 school does it then it is perfectly ok and part of the process. Geez you would think you guys would have this down by now.

I support every bit of it.

Oversigning, medical scholarships, Greyshirting, preferred walkon(blue shirting I guess) and so on.

It's not only in the best interest of the schools, but it's also in the best interest of the kids in general. It allows more opportunity for more kids, and even the ones who are "cut" still transfer and get to finish their educations.

The day kids lose their opportunity to get an education in this whole deal is when I'll change my mind. But I have yet to see a single kid actually hurt by these practices.

Let's be honest here though you have very little regard for the actual universities and have an almost NFL mindset when it comes to the college game. You would be perfectly fine if the players didn't even have to go to classes and CFB just turned into a minor league NFL feeder system.

To me there has to be some honor, integrity along with protection for the student athlete within the process. I'm not saying that some of this stuff is not being done with the best intentions and by agreement of both parties because it certainly happens but just "processing" kids to get someone better is not something that should be going on.

That's not true. I do 100% believe it's a college and that the academics are a very important part of it all. I'm proud of the way Saban has improved the academic grades/graduation rates in the program. Even when Alabama wasn't putting kids into the NFL on a large basis I was still an Alabama fan.

But performance matters. I was offered an academic scholarship to MTSU and as part of that scholarship I was required to maintain certain standards. These were standards that were a good bit higher than that of other students, and even higher than others on academic scholarships(due to my circumstances).

As I seriously hated school, I did not take the offer up and joined the military instead. However, it was made very clear to me it was not a "free ride" and I had to meet expectations. If I failed to meet expectations, I would be "cut". The scholarship did not include free room and board, did not include food, did not include tutors to help me, and so on.

The degree to which people consider these things a "problem" is extremely warped due to confirmation bias. As a guess, I'd say 95% or more of the students never have any issues at all. There are 85 kids on scholarship at any given year and you have only a few transfers at best. Most of those transfers are the kids choice because they want playing time and they know they aren't going to get it. Those kids had a chance to compete, got free school while they were there and the other benefits and are able to continue their education elsewhere. Thus the turnover actually creates more opportunity for more kids.

Much higher finishing rate than military basic training.

Welcome to the dark side...next you'll be giving your seal of approval to gray shirting and medical hardships.
Hahaha I do have my limits. Once that ink is on paper he is good for 4 years. Unless he does something like failing class or a crime or something like that to lose his degree and being slower than a new guy is not a reason.

One can do something wrong without being shady.
How many wrongs does he get before he is shady? Is there a number, 2, 3 ,4? I ask because Harbs is past the one mark.
