Had a few thoughts on the Lions running game........

Sorry about all the new threads -- Once football season starts, my brain goes into overload and I want to break everything down.

I was one of the guys who was really worried about the OL's run blocking in game 1. I was thinking about it last night. With the Giants using single coverage on Calvin quite often -- I'm guessing they were cheating up in the box to limit the Lions on the ground.

I can't say for sure, as I didn't pay too much attention to it while the game was on. Didn't anyone notice if they were putting extra guys in the box early in the game? That could help explain some of the issues with running the ball.

After the game -- the Giants admitted that the game plan was to have DRC play man coverage on Megatron. So most teams lose that extra defender doubling Calvin. So I'm guessing stopping the run and trying to pressure Stafford was their game plan.

Maybe we are really worrying about something we'd rarely see, as Calvin will be doubled the majority of the time.

Im also not too concerned about the lions running game. The giants have a solid defense and at the end of the day its the lions passing game that will be winning them games. The lions will have no issues running against average front sevens. I do think the lions still need to continue throwing more to bush though.

Mike, I think your assessment is spot on. Singled up on Megatron and 7 in the box with others crowding as well. Dumbest strategy ever on their part. I could not believe my eyes. We should have passed and scored more on them early and the game should have been a complete blowout before halftime.

Yea twist the numbers how you want. It's not like the Lions produced two 1000 yard rbs last year. The important thing is how did we do in '06. I am still shocked Goodell is letting rushing yards from 2009 impact games this year.

I literally laughed out loud at the first line. Only at the end of your rainbow does listing year-end rush rankings = "twist numbers".
