No - don't get me wrong. I agree with you that teams may go in this direction during the offseason (call it tanking, rebuilding or whatever). I was more referring to in season where the players and coaches control things for the most part.

Contrast this to the NBA where teams actually do appear to tank in season by shutting down various players & making in season trades that cripple teams for that season. In season trades of any magnitude rarely happen in the NFL.

Only way to tank in season is play inferior players.

And again that would require an effort by the coach to not try to win 100%. No coach (or just about no coach) is going to go that route since it is morally wrong but more importantly it would likely lead to getting rid of that coach. Coaches are almost always the scapegoat when a team does poorly (except for the Bengals).

lets not break out the anointing oil just yet .

yes we have seen what we "could be " but the question is "are we "

I hope the team isn't feeling themselves a little too much after an impressive performance and an on-going week of praise.

cbssports has them ranked 6th in its latest power rankings. NFL Power Rankings for Week 4 up from 13 last week. Surprisingly, or maybe not, I dunno, ESPN only has them ranked 13th, up from 17th last week. Week 4 NFL Power Rankings: Let's talk about your QB

Seeing a letdown would be disappointing, but it wouldn't be unexpected or a shock either. At the same time I'm
not expecting the same type of performance from the Skins either.

a klunker vs the chiefs will ignite a KC lynching for sure . if hunt carves up our defense the manusky will be a bum

A lynching and a burn, at the stake perhaps? Depends on how it comes about I suppose, but a clunker would be disappointing no doubt. I promise to leave my rope, oil, kindling, fire, iron maidens, and racks all at home no matter what happens. The Pit of Misery is coming no matter what though.

coach will want to tank and dean will explode for 2 weeks in an anti KC witch hunt in which curses abound and choking against big time opponents will be the words of the week

Does coach still have a big ol' man-crush on Josh Rosen? Dean doesn't curse. Or do you mean like voodoo and bad juju type curses?

love the win but now its time to see if we are contenders or pretenders vs these good teams . the next step in our teams evolution

I'm very interested to see how the team responds myself.

My fear also. I hope the Chiefs are favored by a big number. Let' keep playing as the underdog with something to prove.

I truly believe that the defensive leaders on this team - Kerrigan, Swearinger, Norman, Brown, etc - are not the types to get caught up in the hype or relax in any way. If they get beat I believe that it will primarily be due to the talent on the other team. We will see.

I think it all hinges on 2 things. How the team does and how the FO treats him. If the team does finish strong and looks to have the makings of a perennial contender, this will be hard for Cousins to walk away from. Unless of course, the FO once again says one thing and acts another. If the team does finish strong, the FO needs to make a strong, aggressive opening offer. stop dicking around and get the guy signed and move onto working on the others you MAY want to keep like Brown, Pryor, Breeland, etc. But if they come to the table after the season with the same old below market, low guaranteed crap, he will go to FA. And then all bets are off. There are teams out there that need a solid QB who are also on the rise. Oh, and under no circumstances should the team ever utter the word "Tag", even if it is a possibility for them. That just sets the minimum for the negotiations.

You're right, however I believe that Kirk who really does want a LTD, won't be willing to sign another tag, as a result he will become the subject of a bidding war. That LTD that you speak of, is going to cost this organization a ton more than it ever had to. Not my money, so I don't care, just thought that I would mention the real possibility that Kirk won't sign another tag.

I dont see the team using the exclusive tag on Kirk. I expect that they will allow him to talk to other teams and if he is offered a contract that they are uncomfortable with, at least they get some compensation.

In the event he is tagged exclusively and he doesn't sign it, what happens? Does he effectively say he is sitting out the year? IF so, what happens to him the following year? Is he still under contract to the team?

No I don't think that not signing the non-exclusive tag means a sit out year. Don't quote me on this but I believe that the NET gives him the right to negotiate and sign with another team, the option I think, then would be on our FO to either match or take the compensation. I don't believe that there's a play that has Kirk sitting out a season.

you have to sign the tender to practice or play . you can sit out the season but you lose time in service (retirement ) . he could sit out 10 games , sign it and be vested for the year

I believe all the players you mention are in some way leaders, but I don't think RK or Norman are leaders in the manner of which you speak. At least they weren't last year and I think that a lack of leadership in the sense of which you're speaking, hurt the Skins during the last 6 weeks of the season.

There was no one last year that could metaphorically bitch-slap the team out of their funk or prevent the funk from creepin in in the first place. From what I've read/seen this year. DJ seems to be that type of leader or has at least accepted that leadership role.

Homey...sure Kirk wants a long term deal. I'm even beginning to believe the Skins might have a decent shot at retaining him, possibly announcing sometime during this year that they and Kirk have come to an agreement. BUT.......if signing another tag nets him north of 30 million in a single season next year. KC would kinda have to be insane not to seriously consider doing that as.......

19.5m + 23.9m + 30m = 73+ million already made dollars - 73 million already made = w/o question LTD type money - Being the player who makes 73+ million in 3 years in the NFL = Stone Cold Pimpin.

As Keyshawn the pimp would say to Butters the pimp. After Butters told his bitches he would no longer be their pimp and for them to go make their own mothafuckin money and I quote, "Pimp, you done changed the game." We'll have to officially give Kirk the nickname of Butters if that happens.

Aside from them announcing a deal mid season, you are spot on. If they announced a deal mid season, or if the NFLPA or the head office even suspect they are even talking deal before the season ends, the Skins would get hit with a tampering violation (A player on the tag is the only time a team can get hit with tampering with their own player)

For tampering with their own player in a system that's purposely set up to give the team who the player currently plays for. An advantage over the teams the player isn't presently playing for.
