Sure...let's entirely ignore that 3 of the 4 teams made the playoffs and just use two games in the playoffs as the barometer for how good the division was. Let's also completely ignore looking at the whole division and simply concentrate on how two higher seeds (NE and Indy) and sole representatives of their respective divisions each won home games against AFCN teams.

:L

Bottom line is the AFC N had the easiest schedule in football last year, producing three playoff teams because of it. And of course they did nothing in the playoffs.

Actually...the St. Louis Rams did nothing in the playoffs.

FTW has already ranked all 32 NFL teams by wins over the last decade and while New England, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh lead the pack, with Cleveland, St. Louis and Oakland at the bottom, we thought, what about each of the NFL’s eight divisions? Which one dominates and which one is the four-team equivalent of the Raiders?

Before we get to the numbers, remember that each division has the same 120-120 record (in 960 games overall) over the decade from intra-division games. That leaves 100 games per team (and 1,600 games overall) that can be won against non-division opponents.

By Division
AFC North — 334 wins (8.35 wins per team per season)

NFC East — 333 wins (8.33 wins per team)

AFC East — 328 wins (8.2 wins per team)

AFC South — 320 wins (8 wins per team)

If you asked 100 football fans, I bet a lot would be able to hit the oct-fecta (?) on this. There are no real surprises. The AFC North and NFC East have clearly been the two most consistent conferences, while New England’s 122 wins (37% of its division’s total) prop up an otherwise mediocre AFC East. The recent power of Indianapolis and Houston make up for Jacksonville and Tennessee’s recent woes too. As you’d expect, no division has averaged more than nine wins per season and none has averaged less than seven, a nod to both the guarantee of a .500 record in divisional play and overall parity in the league.

NFC South — 318 wins (7.95 wins per team)

NFC North — 318 wins (7.95 wins per team)

AFC West — 307 wins (7.68 wins per team)

NFC West — 297 wins (7.43 wins per team)

The NFC West, which was one play away from having a back-to-back Super Bowl champion, brings up the rear, not that it’s a surprise (it once had a 7-9 team make the playoffs). Not even the excellence of the Seahawks and 49ers in recent years were enough to get the division within 10 wins of its closest competitor. The NFC South, NFC North and AFC South are essentially the same, with just two wins separating the three. After that, it gets far uglier, with the AFC West and aforementioned NFC West.

Playoff appearances by division (Super Bowl wins in parenthesis, tiebreaker SB wins)
1. AFC North — 19 (3)

2. NFC East — 17 (2)

3. NFC North — 15 (1)

3. AFC South — 15 (1)

3. NFC South — 15 (1)

ap_super_bowl_football_40201849.jpg
(AP)

6. AFC East — 13 (1)

6. NFC West — 13 (1)

8. AFC West — 13 (0)

More of the same here, except the NFC North makes a jump into the top three (though, granted, that’s a crowded third place.) Every division automatically has 10 playoff appearances, of course (the division winner every year), so when the AFCE, NFCW and AFCW are stuck at 13, it means they’ve only had three wild card teams in the past decade. Again, this is a bit of a surprise given the Seahawks and 49ers recent play and how high San Diego and Denver were on our list of most wins this decade (97 and 5th place for the Chargers, and 95 and 2nd place for the Broncos.)

The AFC North averages just under one wild card per season, which is awfully impressive. Sure, the AFCN is the winningest conference over the past 10 years, but you’d think with all the competition in that division it’d be tough to rise above teams is lesser divisions to sneak into the playoffs.

Only one division has had 3 different teams appear in the Super Bowl over the last 10 years.

Fun with numbers.

I didn't write it and agree that the NFCW has done well... Recently...I am a fan of the NFCW and if SF hasn't chit the bed hey would be the best or close.

But for out Rams friend that looked at last year and makes the claim the AFCN had the easiest schedule then did nothing in the playoffs I Thot a little decade long history lesson may steer him in the right direction.

I think the Bengals are the big head scratcher for me. They have been more or less an 8-10 win for most of the past 10 or so years yet they can't win a playoff game. Not one. Hard to measure how good they really are.

Yeah if you figure that out call Marv Lewis...

They have ridiculous talent both sides of the ball and usually kick the Ravens ass at least once sometimes twice in a regular season.

However, if I had to choose any team to play in the playoffs first it would be the Bengals. There is a difference between a good regular season QB and a playoff QB.

Right on queue! That's a good little tard boy.

I must warn you about flyertwat. If you're going to keep hanging around with that bandwagon fruitcake you're going to have to practice putting the "lotion on it's skin". And FYI, he has a fetish for fatties like you :thumb:

You're so cute when you try to be funny, Pork Chop.

Listen, I heard there is a program/app that let's take a photo that makes you look like a gravy sucking pig and manipulate it so you only look like Rosie O'Donnell with a bad haircut. You should use it to doctor up that selfie you use for an avatar.
