Anyone catch Tony Dungy on CBS after the second game? This sitting players thru the preseason has got to start. Teams like Minnesota with 8 false start penalties, clearly were not ready.Yeah, but those were those guys first appearances of the pre-season or they had played very little. The cutting back from 4 to 3 pre-season games made teams adjust how they approach it with their starters. I don't know of a team in the league who played their healthy starters more than us, though. Or if they did - you would really have to split hairs to come to that conclusion.
With 4 games - it was absolutely protocol that the final game was for guys fighting for a roster or starting spot. While the established 1's sat. I never saw it be played any different. Not during my lifetime. Game 2 was typically the first extended action for starters, while Game 3 was "dress rehearsal".
Oh, and under Nagy? The Bears have started off 3-1 in each of his first three seasons. Collectively, he is 9-3 in the first quarter of each season. Not exactly a slow start. Nagy only ever rested guys in 2019 pre-season. There was no pre-season in 2020 and in 2018 I believe he went about it in a rather standard fashion.
At least a real expert had the same opinion as me.
But I am sure nobody thought another 25 or so plays with the ones thru preseason in real game situations would not have made a difference with the passing game yesterday.
I mean, I get it, we might have lost an interior offensive lineman too, but a loss is a loss.
