That should NEVER be a factor but as you said unfortunately it is. A cheap shot is a cheap shot the result of the action should not dictate the punishment.

I disagree only in that I think it should be able to add more to a suspension, but the fact that a guy wasn't hurt should not be used to reduce a suspension.

Not sure if it will figure into Collie's decision or not, but he may consider that Cal also was charged with a penalty on the play.

It shouldn't, there is a difference between a penalty and a cheap shot. The other thing that pisses me off is it seems like if a cheap shot is given to a star player the penalty seems higher and that shouldn't make a difference.

I don't care if the guy receiving the cheap shot is OV or a middle of the road player the suspension should be the same. To me this is sending a message to the hard working clean grinders on the third or fourth lines that they don't mater. It's bullshit and even the NHLPA should stick up for ALL off the players.

Fair points all of it.

I throw it out there only because Collie could cite it as a mitigating factor because he could be seen as sticking up for his teammate - albeit in a cheap, over-the-top goonish fashion.

(Not my opinion, mind you, but we all how dysfunctional Collie's brain is)

I disagree with this one. I could be wrong though

Steckel Vs Sid no suspension (Not dirty) but could have been since Sid was having an incredible season to that point.

Cooke Vs OV in the knee collision No suspension and was dirty.

btw, I mentioned Cllusterfuck as a mitigating factor not because he's not a star, but because he's a player known to take liberties as well (see 3 seconds before he got creamed as an example)

What do you think is reasonable? And do you agree that the guy is a POS?

I said earlier in the thread that I feel Gillies should be suspended for the rest of the season. I honestly hope the Islanders let him go at the end of the year. I don't want him in an Islanders uniform ever again. He was given two opportunities & didn't learn his lesson.

My point is Campbell wheel of justice is a joke. Earlier in the year Wizniewski got 2 games for a gesture. He didn't do a damn thing. Lucic delivered a couple of cheapshots last night. Will he even get fined? I doubt it.

I agree...those are good points. Its a tough thing when you have a player on your team who you personally revile. (See: Cooke, Matt)

You just want him gone for the year so he doesn't take up ice time ;)

It was strike two... Give him a harsh punishment, he does it again, then can him.

Not emough IMO. They should have made sure he didn't see the ice for the rest of this season. If he is active for the game vs. Pittsburgh, we could have an uglier game than we did last time. Our POS, Cooke will most likely be available for that game. (unless he kills someone with an "accidental" skate blade to the neck between now and then)
