Pittsburgh fans aren't allowed to have opinions on dirty play.

How do you spell melodrama?

2 minutes off of a 9 game suspension, he ran Clusterfuck's head into the glass with a forearm shiver.
there's a vid in the other Gilles thread.

Could be a lack of conditioning thing. That was the quickest way for him to get off the ice and catch his breath.

As an Isles fan what Gillies did last night did bother me. I don't expect Gillies to be back this year & I hope the Islanders let him walk at the end of the year. I have no problem with playing tough in your face hockey. However players need to learn from their mistakes. Gillies wasn't able to do that. I don't think he deserves a third chance to wear an Isles jersey.

just ban the idiot

That's what I said last night. The guy is a fucking nut case. There is a difference between playing tough and hard when needed, then there's just plain fucking stupid.

That's the biggest thing. If you've learned from your mistake your elbow wouldn't come up above your waist all game. Suspensions are supposed to act as a deterrent against these actions, and if that doesn't work you really have to throw the book. That said, I don't think this action (minus his track record) would normally get a big suspension, but knowing the situation you have to be really harsh.

With that said he'll get 4 games and a blow pop.

His first game back from a 9 game suspension & he does this. He plays 2 to 4 minutes per game. Colie is going to throw the book at him.

yeah, if it's Clusterfuck throwing the hit, that's 2 games.

for him, I think they really want to escalate from 9 because it's just so soon after the last one.
that makes what.... 12?

His post-game comments said that he had no intent to injure the guy...and I believe that, however I'm pretty sure you're taught from a young age to keep your hands/stick down when hitting someone. It's just so boneheaded.

I think the league is going to use Gillies as an example. The Islanders have 17 games left. I don't expect Gillies to be available for any of them. We must take into account who's dishing out the punishment & the team involved as well.

No I don't think he did, I was just saying that in general you're taught to keep the stick down, as well as the hands.

Just pointing out what Gillies intentions were... and they weren't to lay a heavy check on the boards. He dropped his stick so he could take a poke at Clutterbuck.

I will be shocked if he is suspended for the season.... although, what is the rule on having two game mis-conducts in the same season? Doesn't that carry a punishment by itself before any other disciplinary action?

Really? Ban him, 81 game suspension? Wow that is rediculous. Just as a refresher how many games did Bertuzzi end up missing?

I know it is not quite fair because of the lockout the next season but look at some of the other shit that has gone on in this league and the resulting punishments.

Holy over reaction batman.

I say just send Gillies to a bottom feeding KHL team like they did with Chris Simon so he can lead them in scoring
