The silver linings of a cloudy, cloudy Giants season
Most of the 2022 Giants season has been filled with depressing developments, but there are a few reasons for optimism emerging this season.theathletic.com
He had some things he liked, Logan Webb proving he's legit and not a 1 year wonder, us keeping Rodon healthy and effective and getting him paid (so future Rodons might like coming here on 1 year prove it deals), turning Darin Ruf into JD Davis, Joey Bart figuring it out and should be a plus at the position, Kyle Harrison.Gist? The last bit was interesting. He said if you're going to have a year like this, make it a year right before a lot of good FAs become available. The front office was 'humbled' this year (his word) as running back from 107 wins didn't work at all so now they know they can't keep playing platoon games everywhere. We should be legit players in free agency for the first time in a while.
Ouch.
On KNBR, Estes, a Giants employee, just floated an idea that fans not go to games as a “protest” of what the Giants are right now.
Anyone think he will be getting a call from FZ or some other muckity muck in the next hour or so?
That was kinda my thought. How can a Giants broadcaster say something like that? Granted, he wasn’t recommending it happen, he was just saying he understands the fans irritation and was wondering what they could do to show their irritation, and he listed not going to games as one of the first options.
I guess we'll see what happens in the next couple of days. Maybe he'll just get a slap on the wrist or the org will say "hey, we'd protest by not going to games if we were the fans too" and just look the other way. That was kinda my thought. M&M made no reference to it (like they didn’t even realize what he said) and Shawn didn’t even stammer like he realized he just stepped in it. The conversation went went forward without a hitch.
Did he mention why he regards this offseason of being full of good FAs? There are definitely some good ones but the are kind of bunched in the same positions and there is not much depth to the amount of good FAs.He had some things he liked, Logan Webb proving he's legit and not a 1 year wonder, us keeping Rodon healthy and effective and getting him paid (so future Rodons might like coming here on 1 year prove it deals), turning Darin Ruf into JD Davis, Joey Bart figuring it out and should be a plus at the position, Kyle Harrison.

He is still a ++ defender. So he is useable as a 4th/5th OF. But he shouldn’t be a starter.Doesn't sound like a non-tender is in Mike Yastrzemski's future. Farhan Zaidi on KNBR: "We view him as part of this team going forward." Not a surprise. Yaz in a down year has still been a 1.3 WAR player and that's worth the ~$5M he'd probably make in arbitration.
Farhan Zaidi said on KNBR that he'd like to re-sign Joc Pederson and has had conversations with Joc and his agent about returning next year.
I'm good with this, as long as he becomes the full time DH. There is no reason to continue playing him in the outfield.Giants Have Discussed New Contract With Joc Pederson
The Giants have already held talks with outfielder Joc Pederson about re-signing him beyond the current season. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.www.mlbtraderumors.com
