I would think today would be a logical start, with the lefty Moyer going tomorrow... probably will sit again (or will come in for D for Huff)

Yikes...

Shingles is a chronic ailment, isn't it?

Shingles is a painful skin rash . It is caused by the varicella zoster virus. Shingles usually appears in a band, a strip, or a small area on one side of the face or body. It is also called herpes zoster.

Shingles is most common in older adults and people who have weak immune systems because of stress, injury, certain medicines, or other reasons. Most people who get shingles will get better and will not get it again.

Wouldn't it have to? We're all in agreement (I think) that we considered a long term deal to Cain less risky than to Tim, due to differences in body types and throwing motions, etc.

If his velocity keeps dropping and his K/BB rate keeps doing so also, we may be happy to let Seattle or whomever sign him for 5 yrs $120 mil. Or even trading him next year depending on where we are in the race.

Guys that pitch really really well early in their career and then keep doing so for years and years with few injuries are really rare. More are like Johan Santana, and I wouldn't be the least surprised if Tim is more like that than say a Roy Halladay who just keeps on keeping on.

I'm thinking of Justin Verlander......velocity dropped precipitously, and everyone thought he was damaged goods. Makes some mechanical changes and started throwing mid-90's again.

Jason Verlander learned that from consulting with Nick Lowery.

;)

Here is Baggs take:

DENVER -- Giants catcher Buster Posey was scratched from Wednesday's lineup because of a case of shingles that flared up toward the end of Sunday's game at Arizona.

Posey was diagnosed with the viral infection on Monday, when he had a scheduled day of rest. He assumed he would be fine after Tuesday's day off. But Hector Sanchez replaced him behind the plate, batting fifth.

Posey lifted his sleeve to show the red blisters on the underside of his left arm. They also extend down his forearm and down his left shoulder and back.

"You feel zapped," he said. "it I just feel worn down still. I'm planning on being in there (Thursday), though."

Shingles are triggered by the same virus that causes chicken pox, which Posey recalled havign when he was 5 or 6 years old. The virus stays dormant in areas of the body, most commonly the spinal column. A flare can be triggered by a cold, a lack of sleep or stress.

Posey said he started to feel worn down toward the end of the exhibition schedule. The blisters began to emerge in the latter stages of Sunday's game.

"It's not real comfortable, but it could be worse," Posey said. "I'm lucky it's not on my face. I just feel crappy still. (Tuesday's) day off wasn't the most relaxing day off ever."

Posey is taking anti-viral medication; he's been advised that the condition generally clears in four to five days, but can take as long as three weeks. In the meantime, Posey is considered contagious but the virus is not easily transmitted.

Shingles more commonly affects adults over the age of 60 or people with compromised immune systems.

Honestly, I think he's trying to become more of a GB pitcher. His off speed/breaking stuff is as plus as it gets, but they do a number on your arm. Being able to rely on a GB to get one out of a jam vs trying to K everyone seems a little more efficient.

If he gains the Velocity back, great! He's an awesome pitcher.

If he can adapt and become more Weaver like, great! He's an awesome pitcher.

If he starts to suck big time, well.... good thing we only have him on a 2 year deal :cool2:
