Good feelings all gone.

Pitching was ok until the 8th

Fielding poor

Hitting worse than pathetic. As usual.

Really?

Coming into the series, would you have accepted a 2-1 series win?

We can't get out of the hole we are in in one series. The Giants played this series very well (the Giant-Way). A non-sweep does not erase tat.

The good : Giants win 2 of 3 and pick up a game in the standings

The bad : 3 - 21 W / RISP in this series , this needs to change quickly

I suppose I would have liked 2-1, but not having won the first two.

Wasn't exactly Kershaw on the mound today, and we still couldn't hit or score off him. The 3-21 with RISP continues a bad streak since mid-May. And adding all the Tanakas and Frenchys are not going to change that much.

Disappointed about the play today, and not getting the sweep. But 2-1 is better than 0-3.

Bring on the Redlegs.

Well, we need to win 3 against the Reds to have a chance. With Zito and Surkamp going, I'm not sure if that is possible.

Yeah it feels like we have to win 3, and that will be tough. Need some luck.
They mentioned on the radio that LA has gone 20-5 this last month...we are now 5-2, and the playoff teams all have a run or two like that during the year. We need ours, quickly.

I don't think we'll be getting much help in terms of new blood either, other than guys getting healthy. The group we have now will have to get it done. We thought they could when the season started, and they did for the most part do well early. So they just have to get back to that. There's still time. I don't think they will trade for or trade away anyone meaningful.

Not true, and this whole post borders on pantshattery.

You have to figure a split of the DH, as 80%+ DHs are split. Therefore, to "have a chance" you're saying that they need to win behind Tim tonight and Groper on Wednesday.

I say they still "have a chance" even if they split this series.

It's not pantshattery. More like reality. The Giants are 45-52, and after the Cubs series, they have to play @Philly, @Tampba, @Washington, with home series against Boston, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. That's fucking brutal. The deadline is coming up quick and if we split against the Reds, Sabean won't (or at least I hope he doesn't) make any desperate trade.

tz, chill.

Technically, we still "have a chance" if we lose the next 15 games. However, we are in such a hole that the normal split of a 4-game set is not good. We HAVE to win this series.

Is the season over if we do not? No.

Is it a series that they simply can't recover from if they split or lose? No.

Realistically, being said from a fan, is this a must-win series? Yup.

This is not a court of law. We are shooting the shit. Stop holding everyone up to ungodly standards that you deem required one day, but allowed to be ignored the next.

Your logic is a mess. You're saying if we go 2-2 against the Reds vs. 3-1 we "don't have a chance" and yet if we go 3-1 SabeySabes will make a "desperate trade."

I have no clue what you're point is. Other than that the Giants are in trouble.

I've no problem with "shooting the shit," but when a series in July is deemed to make or break the season, I tend to call BS.

If we weren't 8 games under .500, you'd be correct. But, that's not the reality of the situation. The team has to play itself into buy mode for Sabean to make a move, whether it's a packaged deal to get Peavy and Rios or acquire bullpen help. The current makeup of the team just won't cut it.

The Reds are one of the better teams in the NL. After the Cubs series, we're going up against clubs that are just as good or better than the Reds. If we don't have a good showing, what makes you think we're going to perform any better against the teams I mentioned earlier?
