Day to Day
Pats at Baltimore for a Sunday night contest. Kickoff at 8:25 PM.
Ravens are coming off a Bye.
It looks as though the week of rest and recuperation came at the right time for the Baltimore Ravens. After having their Week 8 bye, the Ravens are preparing for the New England Patriots and are getting healthier.
According to coach John Harbaugh, linebacker Patrick Onwuasor, wide receiver Marquise Brown and cornerback Jimmy Smith are all “on track” to play in Week 9 against the Patriots.

While Harbaugh did throw in the caveat that “you never know,” Baltimore will need all the help they can get in this matchup.
Brown and Onwuasor missed the last two games with ankle injuries, while Smith has played just one game this season, suffering a knee sprain after just six snaps in Week 1. Though Brown and Onwuasor failed to practice at all ahead of the Ravens’ Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks, Smith returned to the practice field as a limited participant.
Brown is the Ravens’ primary deep threat, forcing opposing defenses to pay special attention to him and opening up other routes underneath. Without Brown in the lineup, the Ravens’ offense has stagnated. He’s been one of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets this season, targeting him 39 times in spite of playing in just five games.
Onwuasor is the expected starter at inside linebacker, though the play of L.J. Fort and Josh Bynes over the last two weeks has been significantly improved and could cause Baltimore to make a change in the lineup. Still, Onwuasor is a major part of the Ravens’ defense, especially considering how thin the team is at the position.
While Baltimore did pull off a trade for Los Angeles Rams cornerback Marcus Peters, the Ravens could use Smith’s presence. At his best, Smith is a Pro Bowl caliber cornerback that is physical down the field and able to match up with the top wide receivers in the league. Once he returns, defensive coordinator Don Martindale will be able to be even more creative with his schemes.
This is an especially big game for Baltimore. The Patriots are one of just two undefeated teams in the league. A win over New England would not only boost the Ravens to 6-2 on the season, but it would also give them a conference win and a tiebreaker over the Patriots for a playoff berth at the end of the season. In addition, it would be Baltimore’s second consecutive statement win, putting them among the best teams in the NFL and potentially a huge boost of confidence as well.
