It's tough to lose by a goal that went in while our goalie was adjusting his mask after taking a swipe to the face by an opponent in front. I don't think Mase would've stopped to adjust his mask unless his vision was compromised, so that's fucking unfortunate. I do think it's a different game if Arizona is only up 1-0 through two. We played well in the second and third, but to no avail.
That said, we weren't hungry enough in the first period, we didn't get enough shots on net with traffic and at the end of the day, Smith basically stole one. Our top power play unit really could take some advice from our second unit. Get possession, get traffic, sift the damn puck through it and then hunt for the rebound. It's that fucking simple. If Smith and Couturier can do it, why can't Simmonds and Giroux? Or Schenn and Ghost? Unreal.
Guys like Simmonds and Voracek are getting plenty of opportunities to score, but just cannot light the lamp. A lot of great saves against them and very little puck luck.
