That's a playoff win. No ground gained on Detroit but we stay alive

Holy shit! Save the tape of this one and watch it again. Incredible game start to finish! Both teams came out strong, but then they took it to us for a lot of the 1st period and we withstood it. However, we definitely kicked it into overdrive in the 2nd and 3rd, dominating for long stretches. You could tell by the reaction of the players afterwards that this was an enormous, confidence and team-building win. The Avs came with everything they had and that's a very good team over there.

While it's true that we didn't gain on Detroit, Boston lost their 5th straight game and the Devils shut out the Pens. We're only one back of the Bruins with two games in hand and just three back of the Pens with two games remaining against them.

I'm not even worried about Detroit beating us in right now, because it looks like we could both beat Boston in.

We're right there with the Isles/Pens too and if the Rangers slip up, anything is possible here.

Many of these teams also have major injuries to key players that are going to affect them more than the losses of Neuvy or MDZ have us.

I have to give the entire top line major props for dominating in the clutch. Varlamov had two ridiculous toe saves on Simmonds to keep his team alive (one earlier and one on the same shift) before G eventually pumped home the game winner. Also, Ghost continues to look like a future superstar all over the ice and Jake looks a lot more like his superstar self too.

Laughton may not see another game as we looked pretty damn comfortable and competitive without him.

One other note. I feel like when this game got chippy, emotional and physical, we fed off of that as a team and really started to bring it. To me, this is a really good sign. We can channel our emotions and go perform at a very high level.

I also feel like the refs called this game extremely tight early on, but other times completely swallowed their whistles. Where was the goalie interference call on Landeskog? He literally ran right over Mase without any help or attempt to miss him. Wtf!?! I've often seen players make half as much contact and go to the box for it. Usually goalies in the NHL are literally protected like quarterbacks are in the NFL, despite the extra padding.

I don't think we see a change in the lineup until there is a loss/injury.
