BALTIMORE – Norfolk pitcher Eddie Gamboa, who was briefly on the 40-man roster over the winter, was suspended for 50 games for use of exogenous Testosterone

Gamboa, a 29-year-old right-hander who specializes in the knuckleball spent several weeks with the Orioles in spring training. He is 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA. Gamboa was scheduled to start for the Tides against Syracuse.
“It’s a violation of the policy set down by baseball,” manager Buck Showalter said. “He had really emerged.”
Showalter intimated that he knew more about the story than he was allowed to talk about.

“He was on the radar here, so it was unfortunate,” Showalter said.
Chris Jones, normally a reliever will start tonight, and Norfolk brought back Anthony Vasquez from Bowie this week as a possible starter.

Zach Clark, who the Orioles were trying to convert into a knuckleballer was released today. Clark, who’s 30 pitched in one game for the Orioles last season. The Newark, Del. native who went to UMBC, was in extended spring training and did not pitch for a team this season.
“It’s a tough day for knuckleballers,” Showalter said.
