I really like what Baalke is doing. Nice trade.

I think this is a steal.

I bet that Baalke and Harbaugh spent a good amount of time scouting Gabbert the year they drafted Kaepernick. They must have like Gabbert when they scouted him, if they were willing to trade for him.

With 13 picks this year we can afford to let go of a 6th round pick.

I think they will turn Gabbert around.

A 6nd pick that wouldn't have made our loaded roster anyway, who cares

True, but I think he is saying that trading that sixth rounder means they wouldn't draft a higher QB to develop that would have made the roster for cheaper. Develop and trade that higher picked prospect (for a good pick) versus develop but hope never to see the field (Gabbert)?

I think signing Blaine Gabbert now also means we do not extend Kap this offseason.

Great move for Gabbert's career. He gets to come in and learn from the guy that helped turn Alex into a franchise QB and has Kaep on the verge of being one of the games best QB's. If anyone can help fix Gabbert it's Harbaugh and staff. Obviously a deal like this must mean Harbaugh and staff see things they like in the kid.

Also for some reason I trust Gabbert more as a backup than I did McCoy.

This only happens if that player sees the field. Teams don't trade for Kolb/Flynn/Cassell if they didn't have a body of work that looked good when they played.

Do you really wanna see a rookie or 2nd year player see the field?

Hold on, this wasn't my opinion. I was trying to interpret what the bvanthielyoung was saying when he said we should draft a cheaper backup who had potential - I assumed that potential could be a trade. I didn't mean 1st or 2nd round from or to us.

I think everyone is jumping the gun on this Gabbert trade... It's not like the Niners gave up a lot and there is no guarantee that they will keep him in the final roster... Trading for Gabbert does not automatically preclude the Niners drafting a QB.. It just gives them a safety net if none of the higher QB prospect is available by the time the Niners draft...
