Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Alex Wood will take a physical with the Giants on Monday.

That should make his new two-year contract with the Giants official. The new deal is expected to be worth around $10 million per season. Wood, 30, bounced back with a 3.83 ERA and 152/39 K/BB ratio over 138 2/3 innings this past season for San Francisco. The club lost Kevin Gausman to the Blue Jays, but they've been able to retain Wood and Anthony DeSclafani this offseason and should continue to spend.

So much for my idea of 2 years/$60M to be a Mariner.

Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that the Mets have a "done deal" with Max Scherzer.

All we're waiting for now is the official announcement from the team. According to multiple reports, the deal is three years and $130 million with an opt-out after the second year. The Mets were long shots for Scherzer at the start of the offseason, but owner Steve Cohen pushed all of his chips to the table, giving his club a formidable top of the rotation. And there's a good chance he isn't done spending yet. As for the Dodgers, they may be now more likely to retain shortstop Corey Seager.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand confirms that the Cubs have signed Clint Frazier to a one-year contract.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers was first to report that an agreement was close. Frazier dealt with concussion-like symptoms throughout much of the 2021 season and batted just .186 with a .633 OPS in 218 plate appearances when healthy, but he's only 27 years old and certainly seems like a worthwhile gamble for the rebuilding Cubs. He projects to have a starting role in the outfield on the North Side of Chicago.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Pirates have reached an agreement with free agent catcher Roberto Perez.

It's a one-year deal for $5 million per Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Perez will take over as the starting backstop in Pittsburgh following Monday's trade of Jacob Stallings. He holds a weak .155/.253/.277 batting line over 271 plate appearances dating back to the start of 2020, but should provide plenty of value behind the plate.

Rays signed LHP Brooks Raley to a two-year, $10 million contract.

The deal includes a club option for 2024. Raley's 4.78 ERA with the Astros this year doesn't necessarily stand out, but he put up an impressive 65/16 K/BB ratio over 49 innings and really carved up left-handed batters. The Rays are pretty good about putting their relievers in positions to succeed, so this looks promising.

This doesn't hurt my feelings.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Dodgers and free agent infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor have agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract.

Rosenthal adds that the deal includes a fifth year option, which could increase the value of the deal to $73 million.

This one does hurt my feelings a bit. I thought him as our #2 would have been a great addition and the price was right.

Cubs signed RHP Marcus Stroman to a three-year, $71 million contract.

It's official. Jeff Passan of ESPN adds that the deal contains an opt-out after the 2023 season and $2 million escalators if he eclipses 160 innings in 2022 and 2023. Stroman was arguably to top free agent starting pitcher left on the market and will immediately slot in atop the rebuilding Cubs' starting rotation. The 30-year-old ground-ball machine recorded a pristine 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 158/44 K/BB ratio across 179 innings (33 starts) with the Mets last season.
