My thought as well. Is that a good price or high? I can't decide. He was one guy I somewhat had on my wish list. Maybe this starts the action
Sources: E-Rod, Tigers agree to 5 years, $77M
Former Boston Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a five-year deal worth $77 million, sources confirmed to ESPN.www.espn.com
Ya that was part of my issue. The $15M per seemed okay, but 5 years on a guy that is hurt a lot and who is former team believes he is more of a #4 SP seems long.I think the price is great, not a fan of 5 years for a pitcher though.
The Mariners should massively overpay like say $18-$25 a year or whatever is massively overpaying but for two years with a team and player option much like JD Martinez. They aren’t going to get an ace in free agency but getting 2’s and 3’s aren’t terrible because they won’t be throwing 200 plus inning with the 6 man rotation and the influx of Hancock, Kirby and Brash.Ya that was part of my issue. I see some M's sites pushing for a 1 year high money deal for Verlander. I have no problem with that along with adding another strong SP. Pull off a Verlander and Scherzer offseason. What the heck, we deserve it.The Mariners should massively overpay like say $18-$25 a year or whatever is massively overpaying but for two years with a team and player option much like JD Martinez. Id lean solid price. 5 years is kinda high but all the contenders need starting pitching. The contracts are gonna be uncomfortable to extent, and you need to deal with it if you are serious about winningMy thought as well. Is that a good price or high? I can't decide.
That is the type of deal IMO the M’s need to look for. $25-30 for a year with Scherzer and heck (obviously I don’t care) but they can get Bauer on the vet minimum if the Dodgers fully release him. They got $100 million, $35 for pitching and $65 for position players which is Bryant and Story. Trading for a Reynolds won’t crush the $100 million Dipoto keeps referring to. But IMO they need to get all of the FA signings pre deadline.
