dead money is inevitable in the cap system, so the question is how bad? this one appears bad?

too many of these moves and you're no longer GM.

Abraham for 1 year + DHB for 5 years would make me a very happy NinerSickness this offseason.

with Unyemori just signing, more heat on Abraham to lower his price?

don't know if Abraham is really our guy, but someone like him would help.

wait........just read this.......

Gaither was claimed off waivers from division rival Kansas City late in the 2011 season and played well in the final five games. Eligible for free agency, he re-signed with the Chargers, who said there wasn't a better alternative on the market. Gaither developed a mysterious back injury early in training camp last summer and was slow to return, raising questions about his work ethic. Nicknamed ''The Big Lazy'' earlier in his career, he played in only four of the first 10 games before injuring his groin and going on injured reserve.

so from the GM's point of view, he did see that Gaither played well last five (5) games. regarding injury, not something a GM can forecast, nor REALLY know how individuals respond? so it isn't as bad for the GM as first appeared, he didn't "flat out' miss it.

Osi's 2-year deal with Atlanta is worth $8.5M.

so that leaves harrison, abraham, and freeney as the main veteran pass rushers still on the market, correct?

I think Freeney will want to start and it sounds like he's headed to denver.

Harrison is intriguing considering he was cut, meaning he fits our comp pick strategy. I'm not sure what he has left as a situational pass rusher and I think the FO needs to be very careful that his head is screwed on straight.

the guy i really want is abraham...i'm hoping his focus is on joining a contender and he's willing to take on a situational/cheaper role.

I'd like to see the 49ers get off their ass and start signing some people. Maybe someone named Revis.

Screw Revis. The 13th pick and a dump truck full of hundreds? Pass.

If it were the 31st pick? Maybe.

At this point, they aren't going after Reavis and fine with me. We need to be cap conscious for our own players. Rather we retain our own core, they're the foundation.

I would sign Nnamdi and take a look at Harrison.

If Nnamdi can be had for a Huff type deal (3 years $6M) that could be a steal.

Wait on signing Harrison, we could fill OLB spot in the draft.

The secondary is an area of critical weakness though; especially with the loss of Goldson.

and if we sign reevis this year, next year and the year after we will have half a team full of critical weaknesses.

I'd rather draft someone. Even if he isn't as good as reevis, we don't necessarily need him to be.

no argument our secondary is now weaker, but if we place too much cap on Reavis, we'll weaken 2 other spots, maybe 3?

it is well known big time FA's aren't locks in translating to new teams. this isn't even considering his return from serious injury? while i wouldn't expect him to fall WAY down, he might not be that "shut down" anymore?

so rather we keep our own players whom we know are solid 49ers. i'd hate to lose two players like Brown and Iupati, or Iupati and A. Davis, or A. Davis and Crabtree, etc.
