I wouldn't mind targeting this guy if we did decide to part ways with Hitner. I like the way he plays the SS position.

Mike Mitchell - DB - Panthers

The Panthers will reportedly "look to lock up" free agent FS Mike Mitchell.

Playing on a one-year deal last season, Mitchell racked up 66 tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He was a play-maker for a secondary that doesn't have many of them. Mitchell is still only 27. He'd have a nice little market if he reached free agency.

Be prepared to see Whitner in a 9er uni I would hazard to guess at 3 more seasons. Takes them to the end of Reid's deal basically and shores up a spot with veteran leadership...

Pass.

Moody & Wilhoite can fill in 'til Bowman's back on the field.

Yes- I was impressed with what I saw from Whilhoite last season. P-Willie will just have to pick up Bowman's slack a bit (make some big plays like Bowman has a knack for making) and we should be fine.

That would be very interesting. I didn't realize Dallas was so far over the cap. I guess they don't feel like anyone would trade him. It could just be a bluff to get him to restructure his deal.

worse, they weren't even a good team!

that's what happens when you don't draft well, you get into cap problems quickly. you end up signing FA's which by nature, you have to overpay in order to sign.

PFT:

Per league source, the new contract for Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is expected to average between $6 million and $7 million per year.

Vernon's average is a little more than $7M per.

Saints will franchise Jimmy Graham.

Panthers will franchise Greg Hardy, per Schefter.

I wonder how active the Seahawks will be in FA. I'm surprised Red Bryant was released. I sure hope they don't get Henry Melton. Perhaps they're looking at some offensive linemen?

Seahawks gain roughly 12.8M in cap space with the release of those two players.

I would think they are in roughly the same boat as us. They could sign a lower level free agent or two but their priority like the 49ers is extending or resigning their own free agents. They have some real big contracts looming
