The problem is we dont have any pure goal scorers. Jake has had a career year but no one else is scoring. Schenn, Briere, Hartnell, Couts have all been major disappointments. Now Read has stopped. Before being injured, Talbot forgot how to score. 5 starters on defense out and we still need goal scorers.

on the bright side though.. this season is ridiculously similar to the last dark season for the flyers..

mediocre goaltending
3 sophomores you're counting on to step up big (carter, richards, umberger)
first games after a lockout

so next year.. next year should be amazing

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! Stanley Cup here we come!

i agree w/ this too.. i'm intrigued by the straka signing as he seems to be a pure goal scorer (41 goals in 55 games this season)

i dont think read is healthy.. there's no way you can come back from torn abdominal muscles in 2 weeks, and there's no way you can heal torn abs while playing hockey.. gotta appreciate his drive though.

It's all about the ping pong balls now... just close your eyes... don't watch... it will all be over soon...

(having said that, I prayed they'd beat Montreal -which they did- so my wife wouldn't get to gloat)

hahahahaaha Its sad but this is true i have given up hope but if we could screw the Rags somehow in our process of getting a high draft pick that would be ideal.

How can we be so good on special teams and so bad 5 on 5 its crazy.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. How can we have the best special teams in the entire Nhl and be sitting 12th in the East and 25th Overall? We clearly have the skill and talent on offense and defense to be successful at even strength, it just never came together for any significant period of time.

I honestly don't think we win enough puck battles at both ends of the ice, our defense gets shredded game after game and when it does, Bryz can't stop high end chances, especially of the breakaway variety.

The fact that several of our key players got injured and/or slumped for the majority of the season made both our offense and defense extremely inconsistent. Briere was terrible for example, which thrust struggling, young players like Schenn and Couturier into roles that they couldn't yet handle.

Based on the result of the season, the failure to gather the troops, the way it unraveled with our team basically quitting on Laviolette during the most crucial stretch of the season, I'd say he deserves to be fired.

I actually don't want him to go, only because I think that if he stays and we make the right offseason moves, we could rebound quickly and make a serious run next season. If he goes, then there may be a transition period before we become worthy of a top four or five seed again.

I'm just pissed that we have this super aggressive, attacking system that sucks at defense AND at offense. We are deuce 5 on 5.

If there were ever a season where we were gonna miss the playoffs a short 48 game season would be the ideal season to do it.

Altogether, I feel like we've just not been competitive at even strength. We must lose something like 55-60% of the puck battles, which is simply unacceptable if you want to be successful at a team in the Nhl. Now maybe a lot of the failure to win battles is due to youth and/or injury, but it is what it is. On most nights, I haven't seen enough puck possession to get the job done. Add that to the fact that minus G, we're probably a dreadful faceoff team, it bodes well for the opposition spending a lot of time in our zone.

Just look at how dreadful Scotty Hartnell and/or Danny Briere are at possessing the puck these days and you have our team/season in a nutshell. I think that's one thing we really, sorely miss out of not having Jagr. He is a master at it, even still.

I just read about that signing. Whats his deal?

from what i've read, he's a great skater with good hands.. 41/41/82 in 55 games in the Q this season.. the knock on him is he's pretty one-dimensional (all scoring).. he was drafted in the 2nd round (55th overall) by CBJ in 2010, they didn't sign him because he was very mediocre in 2011 and 2012.. but he was fantastic this season.. his agent claims there were 11 other teams trying to sign him

Fire the strength and conditioning coach (Jimmy McCrossin) too while we're at it. All I know is someone took an extended vacation during the offseason, which subsequently left our players physically unable to withstand the rigors of a 48 game season. Jesus Fucking Christ!!
