Walker (1.7)

G (2/2)
Bryzgalov (5.667)
Bobrovsky (1.75)
Leighton (1.55)
Backlund (800k)

Total (All): 65.044 mil
Total (After waivers/LTIR): 61.524 mil
Cap: 64.4 mil

Off Season Space: 5.796 mil
In Season Space: 2.876 mil

*Italics means they'll probably be sent to the Phantoms (Walker, Leighton, Backlund) or put on LTIR (Lappy)

** Off-season space is calculated as the allowable 10% over the cap, less all one-way contracts (hence why leighton, backlund, and walker are all listed)

*** Season space is calculated without the italicized names

To-Do
1. Get Simmonds signed. I expect that will take 2 mil.
2. Perhaps sign another winger (Gagne please)

Assuming Simmonds takes 2 mil of the space, and Shelley gets waived in the event that another winger is signed, that salary can be a max of 1.986 cap hit.

Where'd everyone go?

RFA:
Carcillo (signed in Chicago)
Powe (traded to Minnesota)

UFA:
Leino (signed in Buffalo)
O'Donnell (Signed in Chicago)
Boucher (Signed in Carolina)

Trades:
Versteeg to FLA for a 2nd (Phi option of '12 or '13) and 3rd ('12)
Carter to CBJ for Voracek, 8th overall pick (Couturier), 3rd (Cousins)
Richards to LA for Simmonds (rights) and Shenn
Powe to Minnesota for a 3rd ('13 i think)

Thanks for doing this bro so they definitely have the capability to sign Gags if they want...just need to shuffle a few players to the minors.

I am starting to hate the Versteeg trade. Couldnt we have gotten a 1st?

if you think about it, the 3rd's are basically a wash.. and we moved down maybe 10 spots in the draft by going from our first to florida's second.. i really dont think they could've done better

no problem.. easier to look here than capgeek IMO, plus i give little extras :)

and ya they definitely have money for gags (or someone else).. i left bartulis in the cap as the 7th dman.. so you could technically put him in the minors too and have 2.7.. not sure that the flyers will want to be that close though

however, if schenn doesn't make the team, they'd have 5.8 mil to work with.. but i'm guessing they expect schenn to make the team

i never thought i would see the day when the flyers weakest position would be center. when you take betts and shenn (he's still green) off the list that leaves the smallest group of centers i've seen in decades. doesn't mean it won't be a winner. it's just very weird.

and your longest tenured philadelphia flyer is?

Braydon Coburn, who was acquired from the thrashers for Alexei Zhitnik on February 24, 2007. He is the only player remaining to have played a game for the club during the dark season (06-07).

I'm just not sure yet about our team for next season (there are too many variables), but there will be a ton of salary freed up come 2013-14. With all do respect, overpaid guys like Timonen and Hartnell come off the books. If we make all of the right moves to fill up the ridiculous amount of available cap space, we'll have our greatest Cup winning chances from that point on. Giroux and JvR will be flying high while you expect Schenn and Couturier to be regular contributors.

Would you guys go with one more 1 year deal in Selanne? I would, so long as it doesnt hurt a contract with Simmonds.

Clearly nobody checks awaz's math. didn't take walker off in the in-season space.. leaving us with 4.576 mil in cap space, thats with bartulis as a 7th d-man, but no simmonds

i would go for selanne.. i dont think he's going to continue his career anywhere but anaheim or winnipeg though

he's at the point, and the type of guy, for it to only be about where he wants to play

Agreed apparently his familys still in Wpg so why move from Anaheim to Philly?

So Awaz with your cap projections you aren't discounting Lappy to LTIR and Leights being sent down to the AHL? Walker may end up staying if he makes the team but he could be sent too.

If this is the case wouldn't that would give them another 4.5 mil or so? If Simmonds were to sign at 2.5 they'd still have plenty to spend down the road....who knows maybe doughty free up!

No i am. the offseason cap includes their numbers.. the offseason cap is everyone listed, but we can go 10% over the 64.4 million (which is the in season cap)

the in-season cap space (the 4.576 mil) is determined by using

jvr.giroux.jagr
hartnell.briere.voracek
****.shenn.talbot
nodl.betts.shelley

pronger.mesz
timmo.coburn
carle.lilja
bartulis

bryz
bob

the *** is for the assumed simmonds signing, but seeing as how he hasn't signed yet, his number is not included

the off-season number includes everyone because the CBA says all one-way contracts count against the teams salary cap in the off-season, but to offset those on one-way contracts that will most likely play in the AHL, you are allowed to go over the cap by 10% in the offseason

only reason i had lappy, walker, leighton, and backlund up there was in case we did try to go after stamkos or richards before we moved salary.. so that we could see how close we were to the offseason cap as well

what i potentially like about this team next year is the variety of position players that can be moved around. "if" simmonds signs, and "if" couturier impresses enough to make the team, we have a bunch of mix and match options. "if" shenn and couturier can play wing instead of center then things get really interesting.

jvr.giroux.jagr
shenn.briere.voracek
hartnell.talbot.couturier
nodl.betts.simmonds

even if couturier gets sent down for seasoning, simmonds moves into his spot. then all we need is someone to play better than shelley. how hard can that be? the lack of an enforcer above is unflyer like. but it would be interesting to start the season this way.

i'd like to see marshall get some starts if pronger, coburn or lilja get injured. bartulis to replace the others.

either way there is a lot of mix and match options.

also i'll put my done stamp on them for the offseason.

i think they'll wait til preseason, assess where things are and go from there. if couturier impresses in camps and such they'll probably want him to sign and play with the flyers this year, and his contract will probably have a bunch of incentives that will count (a la JvR and Schenn).. having that 3 mil in space should cover it if they decide thats the route they want to go

i think this season homer will finally go with the flexible approach

With Lappy's money we would have a little over $4.4. Talbots deal will be reworked so the cap hit stays at $1.8. This leaves $2.6 for Mietinen or Couturier to make the team.

At this point we have to be wishing that Shelley was either cheaper or preferably not even signed. He plays only six minutes a game throughout the regular season and gets benched come playoff time. What a fucking waste of $1.1 million with all do respect. That money plus our extra cap space could've been used to make a move now or at the deadline to acquire another scoring threat on wing.

HockeyBuzz.com - Bill Meltzer - Meltzer's Musings: Simmonds, Bacashihua

interesting read on simmonds, but i'm posting it here for the fact that the flyers are at 49 of a possible 50 contracts handed out.. and they expect to sign former 1st round pick of the Dallas Stars, G Bacashihua.. that means they'll be at 50 and a trade would have to occur for anyone else to be brought in.. they also are 'courting' blake kessel (d prospect, phil's younger brother).. also this doesn't include a contract for couturier.. so i think unless he wow's on the level of superstar this year, he'll be in juniors again

IF something happens i think bob will be traded..

I read today that we did sign Bacashihua to a 1 year deal. I think it was $850k.
