Mike Florio caught Wells in a lie (or else a stupid error). I think it's a serious one.

This is all separate from the point that the Pats offered a phone interview with McNally, and Wells did phone interviews in previous investigations, so his claim of the Pats refusing an interview with McNally was always overstated.

The story goes like this:
- A big part of the Patriots penalty is because the Patriots didn't make McNally available for a 2nd in-person interview with Wells (5th interview over all).
- Wells previously agreed with the Pats that nobody had to have a second interview with him unless he uncovered new information after the first interview.
- Wells has claimed that the new information was that he -- perhaps belatedly -- discovered a text message from longer ago than he had previously checked.
- Florio's article debunks Wells' claim. Wells, in his report, says that his reason for wanting to talk with McNally was to follow up on a text message that was in the time frame he says he had already checked.
