Andy Strickland is pretty credible when it comes to the Blues, man it would be great if JD came to Calgary and took the place of the meddling Ken King.

that would be a very wise move but unless his contract is up I would not know why they would want to let him go.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a group led by minority owner Tom Stillman is expected to close on its purchase of the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, with Hall of Famer and former Blues captain Brett Hull re-joining the club in a management role.

Some tweets from Randy Sportak (Calgary Sun):

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak
Davidson has an out in his contract with the Blues with a new ownership and can pursue jobs, but says he hasn't talked to Flames.

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak
More Davidson: "I know and respect Ken King and feel terrible how this thing is getting bantered about."

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak
Flames president Ken King is rumoured to be headed to a post overseeing all the teams the Flames run: Hitmen, Roughnecks, Stamps

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak
The Flames also have a new arena - and possible a new football stadium - on the front burner, which will require all kinds of work.

Eric Francis ‏@ericfrancis John Davidson on rumours the #Flames will make him dir of hockey ops: “It’s goofy - I don’t know where it came from. We haven't talked."

To be honest I'm surprised the Rangers didn't give him a chance instead of Sather. He's done a great job in St. Louis. It would be a really good move for Calgary if they can make it happen.

Fan 960 in Calgary is reporting that JD interviewed with the Jackets last week - Also, it appears that the window for JD to leave the Blues expires this week (based on the following link):

The window for President John Davidson to choose to leave the organization expires this week. Should Davidson elect to stay, the Blues could possibly negotiate a buyout. Davidson has politely declined to comment and it's unclear what will happen with his contract.

have I missed something? why would JD be leaving St Louis? he has built up a pretty damned good team, just starting to bear fruit now.
I know he CAN leave, but why would he? Is the new owner bringing in his own crew?
Gotta think Brett Hull will have NOTHING to do with hockey operations, will just be a marketing prop.

Maybe he thinks he's being handed his hat and wants a new start somewhere else. He definitely has ties to Calgary (played his junior hockey in Calgary) and is close with Flames owner Murray Edwards. If Calgary could somehow bring him on board, I think Feaster, JD, and Conroy could make a nice management team.

There is much rejoicing over this news (any ties to Brent Sutter need to be removed)

/I do hope that Clint Malarchuk is retained though, he did a fine job with Kipper last season

While I would love the idea of JD coming here, the mere fact that Craig Patrick and ownership interviewed him WITHOUT involving Mike Priest and in the face of all the uncertainty around Howson makes me very hopeful that leadership is getting their heads out of their asses. I just don't know how much confidence I have that he would want to come here. He has had a few months hanging with Hitch...

Rumors around here are that JD was here two days and spent time talking with some of the players who live here year round. It is a pretty good opportunity. A challenge for sure, but think of the accolades you'll get if it works...

Come back to Calgary, JD...

After months of speculation following the sale of the St. Louis Blues, John Davidson has stepped down as president of hockey operations and is leaving the Blues' organization after more than six seasons. His next career move is not immediately known.

Davidson, 59, interviewed with the Blue Jackets for an unspecified front-office job on May 29. It's unclear if he wants to undertake another rebuilding effort -- the Blues were the worst club in hockey (57 points) when he arrived in 2006 -- or if he favors a return to the broadcast booth, where he achieved his greatest fame.

Davidson's future in St. Louis became murky the moment Tom Stillman's purchase of the franchise was approved.

I think Sather will be the Rangers GM until he retires or passes away. The Dolans are insanely loyal to their guys for some reason. Isaiah Thomas comes to mind. He was arguably the worst GM in sports during his tenure, stayed about 2 seasons too long, had sexual harrasment charges against him and they stuck by him, and there are constantly rumors they may bring him back in some capacity.

This has been all over the news today.

Interestingly enough the fact that they already dealt Nash is hailed as a reason he is stating he won't come...Another rebuild will be tough. A rebuild with no franchise player? Doubt he wants any part of that.

Al MacInnis might soon be out the door as well (recently demoted from VP of Hockey Ops to an advisory role).

Of course, Brett Hull is the smartest man in hockey, amirite?

well, no one else was smart enough to give Headcase Avery a 4 year big-money deal.
in fact, no one else was even smart enough to take that term at even half price when he was on recall waivers shortly thereafter.
in summary, Hully has unparalleled hockey s-m-r-t-s
