Al MacInnis might soon be out the door as well (recently demoted from VP of Hockey Ops to an advisory role).

Of course, Brett Hull is the smartest man in hockey, amirite?

I'll take him too.

JD saying some nice things about the Jackets...

“The only team I’ve met with during this process is the Blue Jackets,” Davidson said. “And that was good. That was real good. I’d meet with them again, absolutely. We had a very productive discussion, just sharing thoughts and getting an understanding for what they feel about their franchise.
...
“If (my next stop) is Columbus,” Davidson said, “I can tell you this: That hockey club is better than the one we took over in St. Louis. That club was way, way down the ladder. But this Blue Jackets team is not that far off. There are some pieces there to work with, absolutely. They’ve got some real players there.”

After...Definitely sounds like a guy who wants to stay in hockey.

/Does Howson have compromising pictures of Priest?

He has to have something. Not sure how he still has a job with Patrick down the hall. If JD comes... Dunno. You have to figure it's Howson and Priest out the door.

I must be missing something here. Defensively the Jackets are in good shape. The rest of the team not so much.

Beyond Mason, the goaltending is not so bad. Bob has a huge upside, but he's inconsistent. They got two really good ones in the draft this year too, Forsberg and Korpisalo. Plus there is Ouellet who is playing in the NCAA right now. That could mean a smooth transition if he gets a little more playing time.

They have an okay forward corps with Dubinski, Atkinson, Johansen, Foligno, Umberger, and Brassard. They just lack that serious weapon. Plus the forwards on the way up look solid if not potentially game breaking. Jenner, Audy-Marcheslault, Mayorov, Calvert, Ambroz, and Tynan.

I don't think he's saying the Jackets are good by any means. He's just saying they are better off than the Blues were at that point. I think he's probably right.

Having 3 first round picks in a forward heavy draft will help. However, when your teams top returning point producer is Prospal you need help up front. Howson should have demanded Kreider & taken one less asset to get him.

Howson would have to have an ounce or more of Hockey Sense somewhere in his body, and he does not.

I guarantee his whole mentality going into the end was "okay, I've totally screwed the pooch and lost control over Nash. Plus, no one will deal with me because my demand have been so high. I have to make something happen and fast."

The first offer he got after the season was three players and he got out his abacus and learned 3 > 1 so he said "deal".

I was not at all uncomfortable with the team before the Nash trade. Markedly better on D. Improved goal outlook, and forward was decent with Foligno coming and Johansen growing into his frame.

Now, a notorious crybaby/locker room cancer (Erixon) an "enigmatic Russian" and Dubinsky who is at best a one trick pony. And they already have RJ Umberger to fill that role. Part of me welcomes a season washout so I don't have to watch it.

What I don't get is Howson said they would be patient. They wouldn't trade Nash unless they got the right deal. How could he have possibly felt this was the right deal? How could Craig Patrick believe this was the right deal?

I feel for Blue Jackets fans. They lost their best player & didn't get anywhere near fair value. I've been through it & it sucks.

There was an escalating war of words and the fans were overwhelmingly on Nash's side. Plus, it was hinted that Resnick was going to start letting out what deals the Jackets let go, that Nash would have agreed to.

After that, I guess Howson just took the first one to end it.

Pathetic. Especially with the mistakes that have been made by the organization on draft day. The Blue Jackets should have more talent on their roster than they actually do.

John Davidson, one of the NHL’s most respected figures during 40 years as a player, broadcaster and executive, will travel to Columbus this weekend for follow-up interviews with Jackets majority owner John P. McConnell and president Mike Priest, sources told The Dispatch.

The three first gathered on May 29 in Nationwide Arena, while Davidson was president of the St. Louis Blues. Just last week Davidson agreed to a contract buyout with the Blues, and in an interview last weekend expressed interest in the possibility of working for the Blue Jackets.

Apparently, the feeling is mutual. In addition to the interview process, sources said Davidson and his wife, Diana, will be given a tour of Columbus neighborhoods and suburbs.

Both Davidson and Priest declined comment yesterday.

It’s unclear how Davidson would fit within the Blue Jackets’ hockey operations department, but it’s widely assumed around the NHL that he would need the promise of complete autonomy, just as he had with the Blues since joining them as president in 2006.

Gotta wonder if the Rangers would take back their pick and the King's pick to give Nash Back. They can even have Erixon back.

I like Dubinski a lot more with Nash still on the team.

I don't think so. LOL!!

The longer the lockout lasts the sooner Gaborik will be able to play during the regular season. The Rangers could have their full roster for more games than was thought going into the season.
