What kind of final grade do you give the Cowboys for this draft?

I give them a C-

I think they got a terrific OL in Martin, a Logan Mankins type.
They got a situational pass rush specialist.
A WR that might develop into a 3rd or 4th.
A safety and LB that may help on special teams if they make the 53

In short, I give the 1st round a B+, the rest of the draft an F. Going into the deepest draft in recent memory with 11 picks, I thought we would do much better. Was hoping for a three starter draft. Got one

Draft grades right after the draft has to be one of the most Silliest things. How about we give it a TBD in three years.

Kiper gave us a B, Interesting. The more I read about the the 7th round DE- Gardner- he might be a pretty good player.

The 4rth round is still blowing my mind.. I like the 5th round pick- I just dont know how he fits with our team, meaning Im not sure he is a slot guy.

The 7th round- 5 picks with a lot of names out there. Since the names never got picked by anyone, I guess we did OK. The problem I have with it is all I ever hear about is depth. Antonio Richardson will make a team and went undrafted

I flat out gave us a Z

I like Martin .... but think that he is more of a pick for the future. As in we will have what should be one of if not the best left sides in football for maybe a decade.

Don't like the 2nd round pick. We needed a defensive 3 down player. Not a guy that is a 3rd down pass rusher.
Losing the 3rd pick in this draft was just stupid.
Didn't like the Lber pick .... think there were still starters left on the board. Rather than special team help that we took.
We take a receiver every draft so wasn't surprised there .... Again think we could have helped the defense with that pick and we didn't

No need to raate the 7th round picks or UDFA ..... most are unlikely t make the team anyway

In short for a defense that was worst in the league ... that has been injury plagued for the past 2 years.... and has question with the health of 3 D-linemen we didn't nothing to add depth or rotation. Nor did we do anything to address the secondary

For what was the deepest most talented draft in my lifetime ... we came out with one everydown starter ... and that was on offense
If not for Martin this draft would be worse than 2009

I don't like doing grades because I have no idea what to expect from some of these guys, so i feel like its kind of a guess. i will say if we got Lawrence with our 2nd rounder and another defensive player in the 3rd it would be an A to an A+ for me. But losing that 3rd rounder was big. I will say about a C+.

Really like Martin, Lawrence and Street. I think Martin starts and excels. I think Lawrence probably doesn't start, but plays a situational pass rushing role which was a huge need. I know that bothers some like Twist said above, but draft picks aren't normally great players year 1. There is nothing wrong with playing half the time when that is kind of what Ware even would have done (maybe he'd play 75%). Lets take Ware in his prime. We know he was devastating on 3rd down, but how much would we really lose by sitting him in a lot of rushing situations? Plus by resting these guys on first down you keep them fresh to get the QB and less likely to be injured if they don't wear down. This is the key to what Marinelli wants to do.

The 4th round LB is the one player I would like to have back. I guess with our LBs we know we need depth so I'm good with the pick, I just feel like there were some players I liked better on the board. I really want to see this kid and hear more about him. I know his production on the field was there, but I want to see him in our defense. You need to be able to cover as a LB in this defense.

Thats was my thing the other day about the 30 snaps vs 60 snaps. I mean we did have 12 Dlinemen on our roster . I think the one thing out of the 12 that lacked was a fierce pass rusher. Mix and match now. I think a lot and Im not saying anyone on here devalue Crawford because we have never really seen him play. To me, if he is healthy its like we are adding a 2nd or 3rd round player here

Unlike you EVER Cowboy player is "my guy". That is what it means to be a FAN, not piss a fit when you don't get players YOU want. Do you really think the Cowboys Organization give a FUCK who you wanted them to get :laugh3: If so you need not be a FAN of any team cause you will always be in Whiny BITCH mode  I will give you a few more days to get it out of your system because I know the bleeding usually last 7 days :L.

But we do have a lot of depth on the DL. What I wanted was another possible superstar like Donald or a great 1 tech. Remember we are getting back Crawford and Bass in addition to the two FAs. This is a big assumption, but lets assume Melton and Spencer get healthy and Lawrence becomes the pass rusher the team obviously sees in him. Our Nickel pass rush DL is Spencer, Crawford, Melton, Lawrence. That doesn't even include Selvie who did OK at getting to the QB last year. That could be pretty good. Then Rotating in on early downs we have Hayden, McClain, Mincey and Bass. Thats 9 guys. I think Bass is going to be a similar impact player as Crawford. I think he will get to the QB a little and also play the run well. Was really disappointed when they both got hurt last year. We aren't going to have the best DL in the league, but we could be good and we will be better than last year.

Im just curious...... Do you not think Scott Crichton would have been a better fit? As well as a better every down player? ( he went 73rd to the Vikes)

That is the point I am trying to make too. I don't see too many 2nd rounders we would have taken helping us more than Crawford and I see Bass as maybe a 3rd. But, at the same time we all knew about Crawford and Bass last week. So we wanted to see the team put another Stud or two on the front line and push everyone back one spot. I get that and agree with it. We have a lot of ifs and if they all work out our DL will be very, very good. But as we all know, the track record of all our ifs working out hasn't been too good lately!

D-

We got one starter out of this draft. We could and should have had 3 or more. I would have never traded up in the 2nd for Lawrence. Never was a big fan. I would have taken Ealy and got another starter in the 3rd. I really liked the guard Trai Turner. Not a huge Ealy fan either but he looks to be more of the complete player and is looks like a 4-3 RDE. The 4th round pick I just dont understand. I would have taken Telvin Smith if we are looking for a linebacker to cover. We did not need another slow plodding receiver.. The 7th round sucked. This draft other than Martin sucked. Cowboys defense is going to be bad again this season.

Typical draft where Jerrah decides to trade and gets raped yet again. It would be cool if he suffered a brain aneurysm and croaked.

first of all we need to stop thinking Spencer will be healthy ...... Known fact he wont even be ready for training camp .... and there are real question if he will even be back by the start of the season...... So no one in their right mind can think he will be 100% by the start of the season.
That's just false hopes and wishes.
Melton and Crawford I have heard are coming along just fine .... but they are still coming back from serious injuries. So it's real iffy if they are 100% by the start of the season. Not to mention we have never seen Crawford in this defense. I do think he will be good in it ..... But my hopes for a better defense were not going to rely on the hopes of good heath. Not with the past two years biting us in the ass.

Absolutely love Crichton and was pushing for him for months, so for me yes. But I liked Hageman And Jernigan better too. For whatever reason the team didn't. But Like I have been saying I have zero problem with Lawrence and really like the pick a lot. What bothers me is the loss of the 3rd rounder. Pair him with a 3rd rounder and I'm real happy. My other problem is this idea of needing a "RDE". Any decent pass rushing DE can play the weak side. Selvie could do it, Spencer could do it and Crichton could do it. Lawrence, however, can't play the strong side.

Your point right there is why I dont like the pick
and I would have rather had Critchton than Hageman or Jernigan. ...... but mostly I would have rather had any of the 3 and that 3rd round pick to go with

and I don't think the TEAM liked him better...... I think that was Jerry making his offseason splash with aa potential boom or bust player
