No classic movies should be remade. They are 90%+ guaranteed to be worse than the original and inevitably fail (with a few exceptions of course!).

Go find a movie that was flawed but had interesting concepts. Remake something like that and focus on correcting the errors. That is a much better plan.

Some prime examples:
The Magnificent Seven. Original was actually a re-imagining of The Seven Samuri but I digress. The remake was, at best, forgettable.

Psycho: A shot for shot remake was an interesting concept but it failed miserably. Vince Vaughn was not up to playing Norman Bates.

The Stepford Wives: I really dislike the "Let's remake it but as a comedy!". These people just need to stop.

A Nightmare on Elm Street: Sapped all of the personality out of it and tried to make a straight forward horror movie.

Halloween: Rob Zombie stupidly tries to humanize Micheal Myers.

Arthur: Dudley Moore's appeal is lost.

Around the World in 80 Days: Just......stop.......please!

I really need to see Bullitt. I've heard amazing things about it.

And because it's a fucking awesome film with an amazing performance from Malcolm McDowell? I actually liked the book better (4.5/5 stars), but the film was awesome in its own right.

Read the book, yo
Zero chance of that happening.

I'd pluck my eyes out.

I like a good 'things blowed up real good' movie as much as the next guy. Now and then it's not bad to you know, actually think about stuff...

Think about what?

Why Brits can sing in a normal voice, but are nearly inaudible at times without accompaniment?

There's been just a few imitators over the years. At the time, it was pretty much a mindfuck.
Oh, I'm not disagreeing that it's violence and sexual content was revolutionary for the time. I'm just saying, watching it in January of 2017, it wasn't much of a mind-fuck to me. Just a great fucking movie.

I've had to explain to two ex wives, a couple of girfriends, and a bunch of people I know how the movie was ANTI-sexual violence, ANTI violence.

Apparently satire is an acquired taste. Kind of like babies in Jonathan Swift's world.

Full disclosure, the artwork from the movie poster was my avatar for a very long time.

I didn't get it supporting sex or violence or disavowing it one way or another. In fact, IIRC, juvenile delinquency's inevitability was a pretty big theme in the book. I don't know how well that translated to the film, considering the ending was changed.

I don't know that Kubrick was huge on social commentary, or, how things should be. He largely made films on the way things are, at least from my perspective.

I've always thought It would be a good movie to remake, and they have. First time I've been excited about a new movie since Gran Torino.

Depends on the film. CO and Full Metal Jacket definitely are. Both ironically about 'total institutions.'

Remake Salem's Lot but use that girl from Twilight as the lead female role because, at least in this movie, the bitch will fucking DIE!
